Weekend cafe hot spot: Patissez, Manuka

When I heard friends of ours were opening a new café called Patissez, I was very excited. After all, Anna and Gina Petridis had recently been contestants on My Kitchen Rules, and the family already own the very well-known My Café in Manuka, so it was going to be amazing, right?!

We were told to head in early as the shop is small and it can be hard to find a table. We thought we would bring our mums along too – more opportunity to taste a variety of dishes! Lucky we went for breakfast at 9am on the Sunday, because shortly after the café was packed, inside and out.

There were a number of items that grabbed our attention on the menu, so we each decided to order something different. We ordered:

  • The Field – Portobello mushrooms, poached eggs, crusty bread, goat’s cheese, balsamic reduction, shaved truffles and toasted pine nuts ($17)
  • The Big Pat – Your choice of eggs, bacon, house made potato rosti, overnight roasted roma, mushrooms, bacon jam and crusty bread ($21)
  • Get Pig’d – Pulled pork, crusty bread, poached eggs, hollandaise, wilted baby spinach and bacon jam ($19)
  • Mini Me – Dutch pancakes with your choice of toppings (banana, nutella, peanut butter, maple syrup, ice cream or salted caramel, $10)

After we ordered, Mike and I noticed the nutella, salted caramel and pretzel milkshake and ordered that too.

The milkshake came out first – now this is love at first sight! It was like drinking nutella from the jar, but the cream, salted caramel and crushed pretzels took it to another level.

There was a little bit of a wait for the dishes, but it was worth it. My brother had told me he thought Patissez had the best breakfast in Canberra. At the time I thought he was being biased because he’s also friends with the family, but he wasn’t wrong, Patissez is certainly up there.

All four of us loved the dishes we had ordered; I personally think mine was the best of the four. If you have not had bacon jam, you will want to get onto that stat! It’s like being in bacon heaven … but seriously!

By the time we had finished the shake and eaten everything on our plates we were way too full to even look at the dessert cabinet, which is really sad because that was the whole point of going to Patissez.

This is a glimpse of a few items in the cabinet; I’ve been told they sell out fast, so your best bet is early on a Saturday morning.

Until I get to make it back for dessert, I hope you guys will have some for me!

I tried again this weekend. We arrived and there was a wait on the table, we put our name down on the list with two couples ahead of us. 50 minutes later they called us to be seated (I really wanted the Nutella milkshake so I stuck around), and then told us the food would be a 45 minute wait after ordering. We ended up leaving – I had an appointment to get to and I couldn’t justify waiting nearly two hours just to get breakfast served.

I just want a Nutella milkshake! :'(

I’ll be glad when this mason jar craze is done with.

Agreed. They are jars. They are just so impractical to server food/drinks in, that now they make them with handles. I actually sent a drink back once when it came in a Mason jar, I told them it was too difficult to drink from a jar, could they put it in a normal glass. They did.

I don’t like mason jars with the handle (seems stupid because a jar would never come with a handle), however I use regular mason jars to make fruit infused water. The opening at the top of the jar works better than a water bottle because the fruit doesn’t get squished on the way in, and the jar lid has a good seal 🙂

Get yourself some of these. http://www.cuppow.com
