If you happen to be somewhere near Lennox Gardens at 3pm on Tuesday, take a flag or just your hand and wave Pete Maguire and John Dow in from their epic round Australia bicycle ride. Pete has raised some huge sum of money for the Cerebral Palsy Association in the process of riding 15,000 ks in 7 months.

John’s sister writes: “We caught up with them at Robinvale a couple of weeks ago and were impressed with their relaxed state and how much they were both enjoying the seemingly tough conditions. Pass this on to anyone you think might be interested.”

The aus-by-cycle trip will finish where it started in Lenox Gardens Canberra at 3 PM on the 2nd of December. The trip has taken 7 months and the distance ridden will be very close to 15,800kms. Please come along and welcome Pete and John home. Fuji Xerox Canberra will be serving refreshments.

Canberra-Nara Park is part of Lennox Gardens District Park, which includes Lennox Gardens (the old formal garden, now done up a bit). Lennox Gardens itself is part of the old original Royal Canberra Golf Course.
More info here.

So, the bike trip may well have started and ended in Lennox Gardens, Lennox Gardens District Park, and Canberra-Nara Park. Venn diagram anyone?

You may be interested in an official version, from the Japanese side, of the Canberra – Nara relationship.

Nara Park is a park within a park.

Or – Lennox Gardens is a park with a park in it.

Has anybody noticed that the park between the Albert Hall and the lake is now commonly referred to as Lennox Gardens? Remember around ten years ago when Kate Carnell designated it as “The Canberra Nara Park” after the RSL objected to her original name of “The Canberra Nara Peace Park”?
