Well you can't say you didn't ask for it - road resealing for New Years

Chief Minister Stanhope has announced plans for (nearly) a million square metres of road resealing to take place next year under a $6 million maintenance program.

~$6 a square metre strikes me as a hell of a bargain price.

He’s promising the Northside works will be complete by January, with the crews heading south after that.

Here’s the major road program:

  • Coulter Drive, several sections – December 2008
  • Ginninderra Drive, several sections – December 2008
  • Southern Cross Drive, several sections – December 2008
  • William Hovel Drive, several sections – December 2008
  • Hindmarsh Drive, several sections in Weston Creek – January 2009
  • Lady Denman Drive, Cotter Road to Scrivener Dam – January 2009
  • Drakeford Drive, Summerland Circuit to Athllon Drive – February 2009
  • Canberra Avenue, National Circuit to Manuka Circle – February 2009

It’s the vibe, el! Woden feels south even if it’s the actual middle!

Another example would be Civic, which isn’t really northside, it’s just sort of ‘centre’.

Much like Woden.

Caf and Aeek, I suppose I was just going with the ‘vibe’ of the south, . . . eg, canberra ave is hardly south (it’s sort of ‘centre’ really).

TIme for a new paradigm, I reckon – the north and south of the lake is not really how people see things.

Speaking of roads…the new traffic lights at Morsehead Dr (near Duntroon) were working today. What a complete balls up at an attempt to get traffic flowing better by replacing a roundabout with lights. Coming from Majura Rd this afternoon and heading towards Fyshwick it took nearly 20 mins to get from Majura Rd onto the Monaro Hwy (near the Molongolo River watersking area) while the lights changed every 30 secs – just enough time to let half-a-dozen cars through at a time. Well done ACT govt, money well spent, NOT.

What’s the bet the new Pialligo Ave over/underpass will be a shambles as well.

miz: Canberra Ave and the section of Lady Denman Drive mentioned are both south of the lake, too.

No offence – but you don’t pay road fees on your bicycles so why should you get a lane that will cost approx $1-$2 extra a square metre and be paid for by the registered vehicles?

You’re an idiot.

Possibly more salient, rego doesn’t begin to cover the cost of roadworks.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I, and most other cyclists I know also own cars. When we are not riding, our cars sit in the garage at home. So as for the continuing mindless comments about cyclists, next bulls**t point please?!

Is it just me or does anyone notice that Canberra seems to be the only place tht has regular road resealing programs?

also Southside – Lady Denman Drive, Cotter Road to Scrivener Dam

Hindmarsh and Drakeford appear to be the only Southside ones on this list Caf . . .

They finished the majority of the 2nd caswell driver southbound lane and traffic is flowing, only problem now is they have blocked off the old one! Maybe it’s to fix the dodgy job they did on it in the first place..

They’re announcing all this, yet the Athllon Drive duplication in Greenway doesn’t appear to be finished? Road workers left months ago, yet still barricaded off lanes, 40km/h zones, no line makrings, southbound lanes still need another layer of asphalt and are as bumpy as all hell….

Madman, you are complaining about cyclists being moved out of your way?

Does that mean the local governments might actually provide a completed bike lane down G’derra drive?! Now that’s a Christmas present…for both cyclists AND the angry motorists out there!

Suppose xmas is a good time to do it – half of Canberra will be on holidays, and brings more people work over the time that they need it.

looks like the windscreen repairers will have a bumper new years trade. Thankyou Mr Spraypave. You are my saviour. lol

Sooo true. Time to buy shares…

By my reading, exactly half of those roads are north of the lake and half are south (traditionally the dividing line between northside and southside, no?).

How do you calculate that, miz?

Lots of Northside, not much Southside. Surprised? no. As usual, a very north-centric decision.

And when is the tunnel going to be built under the Russell Kings ave roundabout? Wasn’t this promised a couple of years ago?

See http://the-riotact.com/?p=6000

Is Rudd committeed to it?

Not on the southbound lanes though :-\

STILL no resealing for the Parkway?

The motorcycle bandits have shown the surface is still quite good.

STILL no resealing for the Parkway?

That’s ‘William Hovell Dr’. Two Ls.

I wonder why they’re not going to do any work on William Slum Dr…

😛

Probably going to be more bloody cheapskate spraypave.

Still waiting for the Tharwa Drive duplication to start- the signs do promise Nov 08.
