Residents of Wellington will be able to celebrate all the good things about life in the Australian capital during the inaugural Canberra Week in the New Zealand capital this November.

A delegation of territory representatives from the government and business sectors is in Wellington for three days this week to promote to the special event in November and generally foster economic, cultural and social ties ahead of direct international flights taking off between the two cities this September.

The delegation includes ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr, managing director of Canberra Airport Stephen Byron, chief executive of the Canberra Business Chamber Robyn Hendry, chief executive of CBR Innovation Network Sarah Pearson and Ken Helm AM of Helm Wines and the Chair of the Canberra International Riesling Challenge.

Mr Barr says the main objective of the delegation is to formally commence the Sister City agreement with Wellington, and to promote Canberra to members of the business community and government there.

“I will be involved in a range of events that will start our Sister City relationship with Wellington,” Mr Barr said.

“These events will build our relationship in the areas of cultural exchange, tourism, knowledge sharing, urban renewal, and support local innovation and technology businesses.”

He said the government was excited about fostering its relationship with the Wellington City Council, business and community leaders during the visit.

“We are also making a formal commitment to the delivery of Canberra Week in Wellington, with the inaugural week to be held in November 2016,” he said.

Sorry, but every time I see New Zealand to this day, I still cannot help but think of the Invade New Zealand video from the Gruen Transfer years ago, that was hilarious. Cruel I know, but there it is lol.

I’m sure that they’ll be able to transfer the ticket to another MLA if he’s not Chief Minister. Trade visits happen constantly in and out.

Ah, and BTW, if if it was a junket it wouldn’t be to Wellington. No need for hand wringing

Assuming Andrew Barr is Chief Minister in November. Or is his ticket on this junket already confirmed?
