The chaos in the Acting Chief Minister’s office continues with an “announcement” headlined “OVER 50 ARTS PROJECTS RECEIVE FUNDING” which doesn’t actually include the recipients.

Acting Minister for the Arts, Katy Gallagher, today announced the successful applicants to the 2011 ACT Arts Fund’s Project Funding and Communities Working With Artists Funding categories.

“This is critical support for the arts and I am delighted to be able to announce funding for activity across the full spectrum of arts practice in the ACT,” Ms Gallagher said.

“An investment into projects at the grass roots is so important to the continuation of the ACT’s vibrant and diverse arts sector, and ensures the community can access and participate in the arts,” she said.

Almost $700,000 will be shared amongst over 50 individuals and groups for projects to be delivered in 2011.

Shame we can announce the winners without, oh I dunno, announcing the winners. But it’s nice to know there are winners.

UPDATE: Readers will be thrilled to learn that having filed in after the weekend, had their morning catchup and a coffee, the artsACT staff have updated their website to… wait for it… link to Katy’s original media release.

Not exactly providing a lot of extra detail.

Further Update: The list is finally available!

Hence the saying: “as pissed as a poet on payday”

Oh please don’t put those last two up, I’m an idiot sometimes flat out! Or does this just make me a four bagger.. *ducks*

Hells_Bells741:42 pm 18 Oct 10

Hang on, it does say winners announced and congrats to all from you. Oh where’s that train?

Hells_Bells741:40 pm 18 Oct 10

I just read the title again, not all of these people get this, oh.. I thought that was the list of winners. Geez I’m a generous soul lol

I’ve often considered writing funding applications for art projects, for the fun of it. But I am afraid that the government might take my massively sarcastic poor attempts at humour seriously, and I might actually have to produce something.

Hells_Bells7412:49 pm 18 Oct 10

No money here.

Not an artist I hear you say.. Well, I could become a bullshit artist overnight for the right price 😉

The list didn’t piss me off though, seems at least less of an evil than the usual offerings. Will they be any good and will we see the spoils, that’s anyone’s guess.

act government… apple…

hmmmm, one of these things is nothing like the other.

Great how both sites link back to each other in an endless loop for ‘more information’…

Apple’s street address is “1 Infinite Loop”, maybe they want to be cool like Apple?

Oooh, now there’s a link to the list, but it 404s. c’mon guys.

I didn’t get any money, but I like to think I’m talented enough not to need their money

“Art” was the winner.

And it’s back to Richie in the central commentary position.

sounds like someone mucked up in the rush to make the announcement! I can see the feathers flying – oh maybe they will make a nice art piece out of them

I also got nothing.

I didn’t get any money.

I wish to announce that I am not one of the 50+ recipients of these handouts.

If other non-recipients would also announce themselves, we should soon be able to deduce who picked up the tax-payers moolah.

Let’s fill Katie’s gap with suggestions as to what we’d rather wasn’t funded …

My undeserving:

Obscure, badly placed public sculpture (as opposed to, say, the beautiful Jan Brown bird/people figures in between Centrepoint and DJ’s)

Bad art (formulaic, repetitive, or just plain poorly executed) by artists funded because they’re, say, Aboriginal, not because they’re excellent.

There is always only one important winner when the government makes an announcement – the government itself and in particular the Minister who gets to bask in the largesse of whatever it is they are handing out. Never mind trivialities like who the money goes to – it’s the fact that a minister is handing it out that is the key thing!
