The Liberals’ Vicki Dunne is making supportive noises to Simon Corbell’s unpublished musings that he’s going to set up a review of the Prostitution Act by the Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety.
“Mr Corbell says a regulated sex industry is better than one forced underground through prohibition.
“But important as that might be, it must also be regulated effectively. Contrary to Mr Corbell’s view, and based on what ACT Policing told the Estimates Committee this year as well as the evidence-at-large, particularly the death of the young person, I do not accept that the regulatory system for the ACT’s sex industry is effective.
“A review of the Act therefore is not only timely, but essential if we are to create the best and safest possible environment for workers and consumers in the sex industry.
Getting in place a regular regime of unexpected inspections seems like a logical step, but has eluded us in the past.
