Ad heavies Grey Group have started researching the online media market in Canberra and have released their findings in their latest Eye On Media.

Using the agency’s proprietary Ask Canberra tool, research partner Newspoll spoke to 1000 Canberrans about their preferred sources of local news and opinion. 22% of respondents indicated that they had visited The Canberra Times website within the previous week while 11.7% (or almost 33,000) said that they’ve visited news and opinion site The Riot-ACT.

Number one would be nice, but making the charts is a damn good start.

Great work and Gratz ppl.
I would have thought the Allhomes monopoly on real estate would have made the listing (they to have advertising etc). They almost go hand in hand with RiotACT really.

That’s why I keep coming back. I have a chronic low blood pressure and RA is more effective than coffee in raising it. 😉

Wonderful news – a credit to JB and the folk there who make it happen. Congrats to the contributors as well – it is an absolute pleasure being a part of this site (raised blood pressure and chronic heart failure aside sometimes!!!!).

I think the interesting thing here is that RA inflate the Crimes figures by linking to stories on the Crimes site, and the Crimes does not link to RA (or not that I know of), so really you are probably a lot closer.

Well done indeed!

The site always scores high in Google results on Canberra topic searches. I suspect that’s how lots of new visitors come here.

The Canberra Times online is pathetic. Only a small selection of their articles get published, hardly any photos, let alone extra content or real time updates.

Congrats guys!

I’d like to think that tens of thousands of people are coming to the RiotAct simply to bask in the wisdom of LSWCHP, but…uh…somehow that doesn’t seem likely.

Whatever the case, good on JB and his fellow overlords for providing the site, and all the contributors for making it what it is. It’s a great part of Canberra, and soon to be number 1, I’m sure.

Good on ya JB! Can’t wait to see this site reach number one.

I think the RagionalTAM TV ratings in the linked report are interesting. Top 5 programs are all Masterchef.

4 Corners and Media Watch make it into the Top 10. Q&A and Australian Story in the Top 20 too for Canberra. As is A Current Affair (for shame!!!).

Strange though that neither ABC News nor 7:30 are in the top 20.

I suspect they’re only looking at sites one can advertise on.

I notice they didn’t include Canberra Weekly, ABC local or City News – given City News’ campaign on publishing when the CT figures drop in comparison they probably don’t want to know if the online forum rates.

Good on RA for getting such a great profile, it shows how prolific readership of the site has become.
