If the traditional Canberra retailers are doing it tough now just wait until all the space being built on the Western edge of the city comes online.

The huge hole on the corner of Marcus Clarke and Alinga Streets is really something else for Canberra.

We’re moving into it in May. Other sections will start moving a few months earlier. On car parking, would have been getting myself on the waiting list, but will have shed the childcare drop-off duties by next year so it will be on the buses for me. (Until we get one of these.)

May 2010 maybe at a minimum, I suspect it will be fairly breezy and consist mostly of scaffolding by May 09, unless its KRudd’s new cost cutting measure.

Indeed it is the new DEEWR building, the honchos pay periodic visits to inspect their huge hole which one day will be a 12 story building with about 500 carparks underneath. The hole currently being dug, that was the former IGA carpark next to the multistory carpark will have a bigger hole with about 600 or so carparks from memory. For now if you want to get a carpark anywhere in city west you need to get to work somewhere between 730am and 8am at the lastest, another terrific idea from Stanhopeless.. sell carparks for buildings before more carparking is made available. Ever wonder how much money is wasted because of employees having to drive laps of carparks or have to walk 20 minutes from the carpark or are late catching the nonexistant buses? I do.

3 levels of parking

The Furzer St Fountain wasn’t a bad hole at the time of reporting, but is still a pretty good one.
