West Macgregor gas leak and fire

ACT Fire & Rescue is responding to reports of a ruptured gas pipeline on Hilda Kincaid Crescent in West McGregor.

10:22am Friday 19 October 2012

The gas pipeline was ruptured by a contractor working at the front of a house being constructed.

The pipeline caught alight and is currently burning several metres from the front of a house being constructed.

Firefighters have wet down the front of the building and imposed a 200 metre exclusion zone as a precaution.

A small number of construction workers have been evacuated as part of the exclusion zone.

10:37am Friday 19 Oct 2012

Gas contractors have turned off supply to the pipeline and the fire extinguished.

No injuries have been reported.

The exclusion zone has been lifted.

ACT Fire & Rescue will shortly hand over the scene to ACT Workcover.
