more road fodder. human life is cheap if you are on foot. My sincere condolences.

Just shows you can dodge all the bad things in life for 95 years and fail once your gone.

The Crossings in belconnen are also like this. Many near misses from crazy drivers not paying attention.

Weston espically is really badly designed. Lets hope they fix it up while they’re doing Molonglo.
Weston has probably been like that for 30 years. Time for a fix

This is a particularly tricky intersection for both traffic and pedestrians. There doesn’t seem to be a place for people of any age to safely cross the road. I grew up in the area and still drive through this intersection daily, and I literally could not count the number of near misses I have seen.

There are a number of takeaways, a supermarket carpark, a gym, a skate park and a service station in the immediate vicinity of this intersection, and plenty of ‘blind’ fast corners.

If you know this intersection, you will understand my question – as an elderly person standing in front of Subway, how would you make your way safely back to Mirinjani? It’s a very long and circuitous route to access paths, pedestrian crossings, or underpasses.

Condolences to the family of the gentleman killed.

After no pedestrian fatalities from 2009 until May of this year, this is Canberra’s fourth pedestrian fatality for 2012, and the third over-65 pedestrian fatality in the past six weeks.
On 12 October a 69-year-old woman was killed on Dexter Street in Cook.
On 2 November an 84-year-old man was killed in a car park on Hindmarsh Drive in Phillip.

ACT Police are yet to advise who (if anyone) is to be charged over the incident on 24 August in which a police car collided with a pedestrian in Civic.

My condolences to the family. For someone to have their life ended in such a sudden and unecessary way is tragic.
