ACT Policing has expressed its disappointment following a spate of property damage involving local businesses in the Weston Creek area.

Over the past month police have attended several incidents of property damage, the latest involving the Weston Creek Children’s Centre and McDonald’s Weston.

Around 10.20am on Saturday (February 2) police were called to the Weston Creek Children’s Centre where six windows had been smashed as well as damage to the childproof gate.

On the same day McDonald’s Weston received damage to its front glass and drive-through menu signage.

Officer-in-Charge of Woden Police Station Mark Steel described the recent acts of property damage as concerning.

“It’s hard to fathom the mindset of people that commit these types of property damage, particularly on a Child Care Centre,” Sergeant Steel said.

“It is distressing for the business owners, and in this case parents, to find property damaged by these senseless acts.”

“The growing number of property damage incidents in the Weston Creek area is concerning to police and we’re calling on the community to work with us and report any suspicious activity.”

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incidents or may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Another good argument for the Garema Place Stocks.

No, no, no, what they need is mentoring, social support, and more hugs.

They’re not mutually exclusive. They can be mentored, socially supported and hugged on one side of the stocks and have pieces of fruit inserted at the other.

Everybody wins.

The damage inflicted on the child care centre the previous weekend was horrendous. A friend put some photos of the carnage on facebook taken during her morning run.

So much equipment had been smashed to bits, much of it also thrown over the fence onto the bike path. BIG plastic and wooden cubby houses, couches, tables etc – it was a right mess. Would have been heartbreaking for the kiddies to turn up after the long weekend to almost nothing to play with 🙁

Sounds like they need a security guard there. Any volunteers?

not only that but they wouldn’t be allowed back there until it is safe, so i would get this puts a lot of parents out of place for a while

I hear you. As a parent I would be terrified that the scumbags had booby-trapped the sandpit with broken glass or something equally as evil.

Yes indeedy, excellent idea. Were it to eventuate, I reckon I could finally find a use for the booby traps my dog leaves in the back yard. I really like the idea of being able to throw recently laid dog turds at the sort of scum who do stuff like this.

I think you are getting a bit carried away here.

Mentoring – Ok (Close your eyes when rotten fruit flies towards your face)
Social Support – OK (I’m sure there would be people willing to carry them to the stocks)
hugs – That is a bit far. Throwing rotten fruit is probably ok, but throwing Huge Unripe Green Squashes is a bit extreme.

McDonalds Weston is 24hr isn’t it, used to be a time when the hoods would pick a dark, quite place to do their stuff. Seems there’s just no fear anymore, broad daylight or people around is no longer a barrier.

I dunno, being drunk isn’t that hard to fathom.

and smashed out a couple of bus shelters along Melrose Drive…

Smashing up a child care centre. Really classy stuff. The spirit of Anzac lives on…
