What do over 40 year old’s do in Canberra for entertainment, ie, where do they go dancing, listen to some great music, some country pubs perhaps? What else is there to do here or surrounding areas that’s fun and alive?

Where do they go for fun and to meet people?

Any place out of the ordinary or anything special people like to do? Recommendations?

Has anyone seen the new Moonlight Stretch Limo party bus in town? I’ve been hearing some good stuff about it.

I saw it heading into the distance one evening with a big crowd on board. Still looking for places to go and heard it goes to country pubs and wineries as well as the nightclub route.

I’ve seen it. Are there really that many nightclubs in Canberra to go to? I guess it’s gotten a bit better than it was a few years ago, but still… I would have though party buses would do so much better in Syd or Melb with their pub crawls. Obviously you have seen otherwise. Three cheers for the Canberra party scene 🙂

Can’t people have fun these days without involving excessive amounts of alcohol?

Yes, I noticed that one… 🙂

As did I. Impossible to comment though!

There is nothing wrong with dreaming, in your case, its about my wife, eyes closed, whilst both your fingers (not hands) are firmly gripping your pee pee..

Was that not the best 5 seconds of your life???!!!

I’m now over 40, and when in Canberra I like going to The Phoenix, seeing bands at the Polish Club, lunch at Gorman House Markets, attending art openings, You Are Here festival, Folkie, shouting at poets at BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT, going to Chrome, going to see DJs who play awesome music from the 80s and 90s, like the guys who are going to be playing at UC this Saturday…

What people who are over 40 do with their time really depends on the sort of things they liked before they were 40.

The same as your average under 40 Canberran: rot in some shitty office, procreate and live a petty life of ignorance whilst sitting in the right lane every time you drive all the while thinking you are really great.

Now there’s a positive outlook on life!

What a depressing attitude you have. People I know who don’t like Canberra get off their bums and move elsewhere, rather than whinge about it.

Sorry Pitchka I can’t afford a camera. You’ll have to buy me one.

Get a zoom, you two…

That was a nasty place, but lots of fun. Remember when they used to do the comedy club on Wednesday nights?

My mother has joined an over 50’s group on MeetUp!

Every week she’s doing something new with them. Dinners, lunches, picnics plus going to events etc.

Her social life is better than mine 🙁

+1 for meetup. If you go to the website http://australia.meetup.com you will find over 100 different groups for the Canberra area. There has got to be something you would be interested in. Have fun 🙂

Also + 1. Great groups – lots of fun.

Well over 40s like to ride their motorbikes; go eating in clean restaurants where the noise (oops sorry music) level is down low so we can talk to our guests and each other; go walking in Tidbinbilla (can’t walk at Stomolo) away from mountain bikers (oops I forgot they’ve taken that over too).

There is a lively divorced (and soon to be divorced ) crowd around Kingston and Manuka every weekend. Plenty of younger people go out in the area too but the scene is just as lively while a lot less rowdy than Civic so it appeals to 20 year olds of all ages.

Ah…Kingston…brings back memories of my first ever night in Canberra and a memorable evening with a lively barmaid from the Boot & Flogger (not the last). Even though the barmaid was a little kinky, the name Boot & Flogger actually refers to an old English method of corking bottles. (The bar used to be about where the Durham Castle is now). It also shows my age…maybe it is time to head back to Green Square with my walking frame.

Drink beer. Play slots. At the risk of blowing my own trumpet, I’m getting pretty good at both now. Not top-notch, mind – it’s pretty competitive out there.

Surely you mean 40 year olds of all ages?

No, she is a bimbo, in her 20’s, looking for someone in their 40’s… (most likely with a sizable pe……. bank account)…

They edit poetry books until they are suddenly eighty.

And post on the RiotACT.

there are many bowls clubs in the act. a few golf clubs too. and a croquet club next to the hyatt, but i think that’s over sixty.

the libraries are bonza meeting places, too. oldies still like ‘books’ and not those new fangled things kids today gad about with. doctors surgery waiting rooms are ace for meeting the elderly, too. and floriade, though i think they moved that to another town that needed a spruce up. catch a bus – whee! or spend the kid’s inheritance at sage (having picked up at the surgery of course)…

Mountain biking.

Don’t go over 40 in the town centres, it get’s too exciting.

There’s a great rock and roll band playing at the Lake George pub in Bungendore on Friday night.

If you weren’t already aware, we put up a guide to what’s happening in Canberra over the weekend ever Thursday.

Here they are.

You may find some ideas there.

They curl up into little balls in their suburban homes and slowly die … or is that just me 🙂
