What does a poke mean in Canberra c2012? [With poll]

Urban Dictionary confirms there is a deal of confusion as to what a poke means on Facebook these days.

We should probably sort it out so here we go.

Definitely still there, just hit the message down box, it says Poke…

But it started so many years ago on ICQ, which in turn turned into a nudge on MSN, then Facebook brought back the poke.

Where’s the “F***ed if I know” option?

In Canberra doesn’t it mean ‘can you lend me $50 so I can go to the club for a poke?’

Well I think we’ve demonstrated a significant proportion of the population have a sexual interpretation of the poke.

…on Facebook, it simply means “Oi! Champ!”. Used anywhere else in Oz, it means the same thing it has for many, many years…

Wow… Here I was thinking that a poke was just a way of getting someone’s attention on facebook…

well they did call it a poke not a ping!
