What happened to the (in)famous Landmark Cafe?

I walked past the Landmark Cafe yesterday (Wednesday) and saw that the business was closed, and for sale.

Does anyone know more about the situation?

$150,000 sounds a bit steep,

Still, not as brave a price as the Easy Way Tea people want: http://www.allhomes.com.au/ah/act/sale-business/easy-way-tea-canberra-centre-canberra-canberra/1316832114011

Another relatively new business being sold up. Can’t believe there are that many people wanting to drink milky, sugar filled carcinogenic drinks.

I’ll see your Easy Way tea and raise you a Kingston Cafe with no competition…

Complete with staff being paid twice as much as they should!

That is fantastic.

Funny thing is the ad says $422,000 turnover in 2011. Then says averaging $10-11,000 this year, which would equal up to $132,000.

For any cafe (much less one with ‘no competition’), $422,000 would be low turnover, and to then loose 3/4 of that… yeah, that’s not going to sell.

Also 20kg of coffee a week is low too. What a croc.

Don’t want to rain on your financial analysis however if you look at the figures they are correct.

10-11,000 PER WEEK = $520-572,000 per annum not $132
20 kilos at between 40-45 cups per = 800-900 cups @$4 =$32-3600 just in coffee which may align correctly with the claimed takings depending on the coffee/food ratio.

Having said all that, you would be buying “a cafe that can not be competed within the area” is a very strange claim as pretty much impossible to guarantee.

Ah well Caveat Emptor I guess…………..

Don’t want to rain on anyones parade but:

As I read the ad it was 10k to 11k per week – to me thats over $520k per annum and 20 kilos of coffee isn’t bad – that equates to 1800 cups of coffee per week – Bet the people who buy it read more carefully!

What a croc?

You sure!

c_c™, did you even read the ad?

It says averaging $10k to $11k PER WEEK so far in 2012, that’s around $550,000 per year, an increase over 2011.

20kg of coffee is close to 2,500 cups of coffee a week, add that to the other food an drinks sales and that easily adds up to $10k to 11k a week.

In future please read before you post.

Family reasons according to the sign.

Yeah, maybe one of the family members ‘contracted’ homosexuality from all them ‘poofters’ who were hanging around the cafe being gay and protesting and all that?

Either that, or they’re just useless at running a business and have decided to run and hide behind some lame excuse.

sinsations for sale eh? better go check my bank account

We could go all Ozymandias again…

Look on my Landmark, and despair.

$150,000 sounds a bit steep, particularly for a place with little to no reputation to buy along with the hardware.

Bad location, bad concept (coffee, hot dogs and hens night specials?) and some very dodgy staff.

Isn’t this the same place that had a run in with some protesters?

Family reasons according to the sign.

My guess is that no-one really noticed that ugly little cafe in the centre of town, and the few who did decided to go somewhere better.
