They ended up in a show called RENT!

Well, not quite…actually they ended up in a show called Avenue Q, an adult (VERY adult) version of Sesame Street. You remember Sesame Street right? The children’s show that tells everyone that they are special and the world is a wonderful place…?

Well, on Avenue Q, our “hero” Princeton, finds out that everyone is NOT special and the world can be really crappy sometimes! He is an unemployed graduate, looking for a purpose and finds it by falling in love with Kate Monster. She, in turn, is a kindergarten teacher who wants to start her own school for monsters. Meanwhile, other denizens have more humble desires: uptight Rod yearns for a male partner, Lucy The Slut for wall-to-wall sex and Trekkie Monster for untrammelled internet porn.

And while not quite the happy finale of other musicals, it all ends up ok, with the inhabitants of Avenue Q going about their daily business, secure in the knowledge that their lives are no better or worse than anyone else’s.

The show has REALLY rude language and live puppet SEX….so do NOT bring the kids!! This AIN’T Sesame Street….and these cute, furry little puppets have the foulest mouths on the avenue! Remember, you HAVE been warned!!

Directed by Garrick Smith, with Muscial Direction by Rose Shorney and Choreography by Jordan Kelly, the very talented cast of 12 and 5-piece band can’t wait to bring all the fun, the merriment, the songs and the smut to the stage.

Supa Productions presents Avenue Q at the ANU Arts Centre:
16 September to 1 October
Wednesdays to Saturdays at 8pm
Matinees Saturday 23 Sept and 1 Oct at 2pm.

Tickets are available by phoning the box office on 6257 1950 or online at www.canberrarep.org.au (just follow the links to Avenue Q).

How about dinner AND show? How about booking through Teatro Vivaldis by calling 6257 2718 – but hurry as places are limited!

Student rush? Sure thing – $15 per ticket 15 minutes before showtime at the door. You must show your student concession card and tickets are subject to availability.

Why pay to go see this when I can see the same thing in Civic on a Saturday night for free

This production is cast with local performers and will be staged in a more intimate setting.

It’s a very funny, well done show.

Although I was a little disappointed that Michala Banas had the night off I saw it, the last time it came to Canberra.
