i went down the list to find the four to which you may be referring, alan [how’s the wiz doing these days, btw?] and got to the end before i foud one that isn’t intrinsically worthwhile – which four do you mean? and why shouldn’t the others attract funding, given that this is the system in which tertiary research now operates – sadly…

My picks are 4, 5, 7 & 10. Might give 2 & 8 some dough too. Not complaining about the people – they’ve got to eat – so much as the system that provides funding for such stuff.

The wizz is doing good, though he doesn’t get many outings these days.

Yep, Ian Warden’s Schools of Inconsequential Studies are still powering at the ANU, it seems. And, if the ANU wants to keep funding them, that is their call.

It seems a pity to waste rare and precious ARC research dollars on things like shipwrecks, more money for serial grantee Bruce Chapman to do work that is already being done all over the world, and financial reporting, though. Hard to see how this kind of stuff is going to put Australia at the cutting edge of international research.

So what? They don’t have Kangaroos and water fountains at the ANU.

Well, at least four of them are worth funding. I’m amazed that the other”big brains” can’t find something better to do with their time.
