What to do with a broken fridge in Canberra?

My fridge stopped working the other day and I’m not sure what to do with it. Some years ago there was a guy in Canberra who would come and collect your old fridge, give you a few bucks for it, then fix and sell it. Anyone know his deets?

This fridge is too good to go to the scrap heap and could probably be easily repaired, but I really don’t have a use for it. Any suggesions?

Thanks

meantime we got an electrolux which apart from the incessant “I’m finished” beeping appears to do a good job. Why do all modern appliances have to alert you whenever something happens?

I have one of these mongrel bastard devices. So I’m reading a book, Rioting, watching the tube or whatever, and I am forced to go and lift the lid to stop the bloody beeping at the end of a cycle, because the imbecile washing machine designers think their machine must have priority above all other things in my life.

I swear to god, I would happily horsewhip those damn fools.

My 27 year old Hoover front loader washer crapped itself a month ago. I asked the girl at Harvey Norman if any of the new ones would last that long….she said 10 years at best, even for the top of the line. Incidentally, I didn’t throw it away, just trying to find time to pull it apart (as my dad did a few times over its glorious life span) and see if I can fix it again….In the meantime we got an electrolux which apart from the incessant “I’m finished” beeping appears to do a good job. Thanks to all respondents. Fridgeland are coming out to instpect it, and take it off my hands if it’s not worth fixing.

If anyone has an upright freezer they wish to sell, please shoot me an email: jadol AT aapt.net.au

Cheers!

Who buys a second hand fridge (or washing machine) these days?

Me.

My fancy washing machine carked it a few weeks ago. The control board blew up. I bought a 7.5 kg reconditioned washing maching with a manual knob – no fancy control board to blow up. I bet it will last for years longer than a brand new fancy job.

Who buys a second hand fridge (or washing machine) these days? Myers will sell you a new fridge and remove the old one included in the $50 “delivery fee” but Ezyscrap will take it away, no charge. dead fridges, washing machines, stoves and cars ……. ring Ezy Scrap. 1800 553 753

When I bought a new fridge a few years ago the chap delivering took it away for $25.

You could also try the local freecycle group.

appliancesonline.com.au picks up old fridges if you buy a new one from them.

I recently brought a new fridge and when they were getting my details they asked if I had a fridge which I needed to have taken away. I didn’t at the time, but I imagine they would charge for it – maybe. So, if you were going to buy a brand new fridge it might be offered, or you could ask.

If you were buying second hand I’d say, just take your chances with the dump. If it doesn’t work, a charity won’t take it. Don’t leave it at a charity bin though.

Leave it out the front of your house with a sign saying “Fridge, $500”.

Ezyscrap, they come and get it. All you have to do is get it to your front yard.
