For about 3 hours last night a siren was going off in the Scullin/Florey area. The cops said it was a school and that they couldn’t do anything because it was a security problem??!?!?!

It is likely a couple of hundred people were kept awake because of this noise.

Does anyone know what happenend????

many years ago, back when it actually rained, I was in my rural locale and it was pouring rain and thundering. Something set off a house alarm down the hill, maybe tripped by lightning, and it went and went.

A neighbour must have called the police, because they appeared, and stooged around the house a bit in their car (NSW police). Then they drove out, and came up my driveway! I went out on to the deck to see what htey were about, and after singing up to ask if I lived there (I was in a sarong and bare feet, hmmm), they then enquired how long the alarm had been going.

I vaguely opined it had been going quite a long time. “15 minutes or more?” asked the cop hopefully. I agreed it had easily been that long and probably longer. “Beauty, we’ll do them a ticket” he said happily, and off they went, in the rain.

That alarm was never heard again, I must say.

Oh, and in regards to the question: “What was that noise in Belco????” … I’m guessing an alarm went off … in the school.

*guffaw*

Ooh, ooh! I know what ‘tais toi’ means from trivia!!

*chuckle*

The other one I had to google: How rude is the verb “foutre”?

Actually, Al, I think stirred was just subbing his nomination (approved) for the biggest tosser on any side of any lake with his comment.

stirred may be nominated but you’re the sitting member.

if only there was an ‘ignore’ option i’d be able to ignore the verbose, precious wankfests that are your every post.

Coming from someone who’s made 57 COMMENTS but not a single POST, your pathetic taunt is also very easy to ignore, D-Man.

Snap! Ignored.

Stand up and be counted or ‘tais toi’ as they say in French. Ou ‘fous le camp’, si vous plait.

At risk of upsetting Stirred’s sensitive, sleep-deprived and humour-free state again, all alarms are supposed to be set to switch off after 2 minutes – otherwise is noise pollution. Canberra Connect 132281.

Busy night in belconnen.

A stolen car was abandoned and set alight near the new Ginninderra superschool at about 2.30am.

And they have an after-hours number via which rangers can be called out to do something about breaches of the noise laws. I believe that the police also have the ability to enforce those laws, even though they may have told you otherwise??!!!!??#@#@##@ 😛

yeah!! because I was about to make a similar comment about the need to throw in an exclamation mark or six for good measure!!! But I live southside!!!

You could hear the alarm on the southside?

Curse that bionic hearing!!

If it was a the school, it shouldn’t be too hard to work out who to complain to.
Depending on procedures, its either a two-phonecall problem, or a three-phonecall problem.
And one of those calls should be to the school to ask “Who monitors your alarm, and why couldn’t they respond adequately in three hours?”

Probably the alarm at St Francis Xavier College. That goes off quite often.

Sorry J – clearly I didn’t include any exclamation points to indicate than it was an ironic post.

!!!1!!!!!!!!!

Fixed.

Can we not? Please? I hate the one that jumps up and down and spins- does my head in.

I’m a big fan of the multiple exclamation and question marks. It’s my code for ‘I’m taking the pith and it’s all for sh!ts and giggles’, because as mentioned before, I have too many male chromosomes to do smiley faces of any description.

It’s a worry when you fall asleep on the ???????????????????? key isn’t it?????????????????

I’d say someone set the security alarm off.

Go up to the siren and smash it with a steel pipe. No one will dob you in.
