The sentencing of Matthew Turner for the armed robbery of the Weston Creek Labor Club does offer an interesting insight into the mind of the criminal.

With the money Matthew and his girlfriend went on a bit of a spree which included:

    — A red 1993 BMW 318i
    — A 50 inch LG brand plasma television
    — A Westinghouse brand refrigerator and a chest freezer
    — $1,737.00 worth of Fantastic Furniture
    — $595 worth of a Navman GPS, various CDs and videos at JB Hifi

We hope he enjoyed them as he won’t be out until December 2014.

Hey guys, is the co-occused Adam Street in this matter the same bouncer that was on duty in the Cube Murder? http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nightclub-boss-on-coke-charge-20100605-xlt7.html

What a small world.

If knocked off that kinda money in a low tech “they’ll catch me sooner or later” way, I’d probably leave town and spending it elsewhere where it would raise less suspicion. Perhaps that is why he bought the GPS?

Seriously, my family and friends would notice it a suddenly had $100k cash to burn, but if I was burning it in Sydney they wouldn’t know, and it isn’t like Canberra is the only place that sells drugs of dependence. Although there are nice roads.

To be honest with you, Im suprised he didnt just get a suspended sentence.
At least he is in the clink for 2 years. Im pretty sure people who have killed someone have done less time in the ACT.

When they catch someone in these circumstances, do they take the stuff that was bought with the stolen money?

Yeah, most of the time it is seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

When they catch someone in these circumstances, do they take the stuff that was bought with the stolen money?

Only couple of years for armed robbery?

That lot would be flat out totalling more than 12G’s.

I suspect much of the remainder went on his defence team.

I’m a bit surprised someone who is willing to do an armed robbery wouldn’t just steal a GPS from a parked car somewhere tbh.

why take the risk when you’ve got 120 grand to spend

A couple of years for sticking a gun in someone’s face?

Pathetic.

It’s fcking unbelievable. I’m starting to think our judiciary are as bigger losers as the scum they are supposed to be dealing with.

There’s nothing wrong with the sentence, and a couple of years is about right. After all, he’s probably got ADD, ADHD, HDD, ASIO, DVD, VHF, UHF, ULF, COD, LMAO or some other bloody acronym that means he just can’t help himself.

Everyone deserves another, another, another last chance.

I wonder if it’ll come to him that he could have earned that much money by December 2014

anyone that would consider armed robbery is unlikely of the calibre to earn $60,000+pa. In fact, I’d posit anyone of that would consider armed robbery is unlikely to be of the calibre to hold a job for any meaningful period…

I wonder if it’ll come to him that he could have earned that much money by December 2014 and enjoyed his liberty at the same time.

Dumb criminals should seriously consider a career change.

Perhaps this lot of money was always destined to be spent on these very things, either before or after it was fed through the pokies…

(Of course, armed robbery is a terrible thing.)

Fantastic Furniture and an LG television? Has the man NO ambition???

That lot would be flat out totalling more than 12G’s.

Was he one tenth of the team?

Only couple of years for armed robbery?

Girlfriend should have copped something too. I find it hard to believe that someone like that would magically come up with 100+k and not warrant some questions.
