What's happening on Florey Drive?

When I drove past tonight at about 5.30pm there were police everywhere and a large section of the road was detoured. When I drove back around 7 or so, they were all still there. No ambos that I could see.

Was it a crash?

[Ed – According to our readers and this likely related SMH story a 61 year old Charnwood man died in a motocycle v car accident. If our readers are right the motobike was in fact a motor scooter of some sort.]

q. Whats the hardest part of owning a motor scooter ?

a. telling your dad you’re gay

Life is cheap in Canberra. Its every man (and woman) for himself (herself). My sympahies to the family and my hopes that the driver gets more than a slap on the wrist.

I’d never live over Belco side, it’s like a whole different town, not connected to Canberra at all….A different breed live there!!!!

As for the scooter accident, thats terrible,I would never own one of those.

yes, I was tempted at one stage to get a cute looking vesper, but seeing one come unstuck with the road right in front of my office window on Canberra Avenue one day stopped that train of thought very quickly.

Scooters are dangerous. I had a friend hit by a car whilst on hers last year.

My theory is that a lot of very inexperienced riders go for the scooter option figuring that the low power of the thing will keep them out of trouble. Seems like poor logic though because they seem to be in a lot of accidents.

That’s bloody funny!

Back to topic, the guy was riding a scooter and died.
Every time I see someone (often female) riding one of these scooters with stuff all protective clothing and no gloves, I think of the couple of excursions I’ve had down the bitumen, and escaped due to full-face helmet, body armour, gloves and boots.
I cringe at the thought of these girls losing slabs of their skin and flesh like going through a cheese grater…
Do they think that slow equals no pain? News flash: slow accidents on bikes are the worst (and most common) kinds.

I went to Tuggeranong once.

The UN has a peace keeping force there..

Only in Lanyon Valley because it is too far for the ACT Police to patrol and to dangerous to go at night…

The UN SHOULD have a peace keeping force there.

Stop knocking the plot to the new Indiana Jones movie, I haven’t seen it yet.

Not knowing where Tuggeranong is hasn’t hindered me in the slightest way, and I’ve lived here since 1997-8. I’m told they even have a mall even further south below the dome one, but I’ve never even seen it.

Morgan,

Do you yourself a favour and dont go to tuggers unless you are lost.

that’s sad…. hope the families are okay.

car v scooter with a bad result

If Florey drive is in Macgregor there was a fatal motorbike accident there at 4:00 this afternoon (I’m a blow in I’ve really crap Canberra geography, sorry. I’ve never been to Tuggeranong as well). I don’t know much, but sometimes I feel like I know more by watching Win news.
