What's happening with the Canberra Marathon?

I know CSM have got Fairfax Events on board, but does anyone know if Stanhope has agreed to close the roads? On the Canberra Marathon website it says they’re taking entries in December. That’s looking mighty close! After last year’s debacle I’d like to be sure it’s going to happen before handing over my cash.

(Backstory if you missed it: Canberra Marathon was cancelled last year due to ownership stoush between Cundy Sports Marketing (CSM) and the ACT Cross Country Club (ACTCCC). CSM have recently won a court case brought against them by ACTCCC over the cancellation. As the club didn’t agree to Cundy’s settlement, this will result in the closure of the club (they have to pay costs and damages) and therefore should mean the ownership stoush is over and the marathon should run.)

From an outside looking in, and from a runner just wanting to attempt their first marathon, this was a rediculous dispute from the start. ACTCCC has now destroyed itself and any support I might have had for it, and Cundy has destroyed its support base. There are no winners here. So now that it’s over it is time to rebuild the Canberra Marathon, it should (in theory) be the best in the Country.

If it does go ahead, it will be interesting to see where he gets the volunteers to man the drinks tables etc, as I think they were generally made up of cross country members. A marathon without volunteers is going to be difficult even if he does use waterbags.
