What's it worth to ya?

I read this as an attempt to stimulate a dialogue on the economic value Canberrans place on the social capital of our cultural institutions and the collections they contain. I imagine this is a vexed question, particularly for those who are charged with seeking funding for these institutions within a broader context of economic belt tightening.For instance, while most of us would profess support for the War Memorial or National library, would this support extend to spending $15,000000 (random figure) on a painting to replace Blue Poles, or $50,000 to for a rare manuscript to rebuild a collection?
Then again,  and I am rather feverish with flu at the moment, and quite without the benefit of a G &T or other substance to provide clarity on this one, perhaps the OP would like to enlighten us further ?

If I’m reading this correctly, I’d say around $2 p.a and put the extra money into things that require the money more urgently.

Eh? Is the one world government planning to take exhibits from the national institutions? Is there some secret conspiracy to stop us seeing them? Or is there yet another underworked, bludging pube with nothing better to do than clog this site with silly, irrelevant nonsense. Methinks the latter.

I don’t think the poster knows how things work in the world. If Blue Poles were lost, you can’t just “replace” it, it’s unique. Same with a VC, you can’t “buy” them.

These institutions and what they hold are insured, and visiting exhibitions are covered by Art Indemnity Australia (who have covered around $12billion worth of exhibits since 1979).

But seriously, WTF is this post trying to say?
