What's WIN News trying to say?

So… The story is about the NAIDOC ball, the previous story was about rookie police successfully operating a breathalyser.

But why this?

A pint or alco-pop to the best fictional explanation.

Anyway I think this one’s the clear winner.

Email me to claim your prize.

I think it’s numbers of posts. I got to “veteran” ages ago, and now can frolic in the fields of newbie ism again, carefree.

How does one move up the ratings (i.e. Newbie, Rioter, Anarchist etc..)? I’m an Anarchist now apparently but have no idea how i got to be one.

Argument and abuse are two different things. Too many people here have been evidently thinking that if they can out-abuse their opponent, they win the argument. The site does not benefit from this. Make the argument, leave out the abuse. Easy peasy.

Meanwhile, I’ve become an “agitator”. I feel like I’ve entered my second childhood.

As DJ said, this goes back a ways. His comments will still appear where they manage to not contain abuse, they’ll just be vetted. And that’s all I’ll say on the matter here. Feel free to email me about it.

Against my own dislike of DJ, I’m going to come out and say that while he talks alot of shit, I always appreciate having an opposing view to mine – as long as it doesn’t get out of hand, which is partially my fault sometimes, since I do tend to lose my temper (only online, though, in front of the monitor I’m all smiles and cheers, always :)).

In this case, as far as I can see, DJ was disagreeing that the image was an mistake. Of course he was completely wrong, but hey, isn’t it fun to debate? I thought that’s why this site has gotten so popular.

Sorry JB, I do like your work, but I don’t agree with cutting off DJ because he had a differing opinion of the image.

I don’t do this too often, but DMD, I agree.

Looking forward to reading your own blog soon, Woody.

please don’t hijack a discussion with a debate as to its right to exist at all.

You’re the one who hijacked the discussion with a debate about whether or not DJ should get to take part in the discussion at all. I’m just adding my 2c to something you started, as have others. Are we going to have a strict ‘on topic’ policy for all threads, or just the ones where people disagree with or question your editorial genius?

everything goes on the front page becuase thats the only one we have. I thought you’d noticed that by now.

And I thought you’d know that by ‘front page’ I meant ‘important, newsworthy, of wide interest’. I guess a real journalist would, anyway. You know – the kind that don’t bin a letter to the editor because it rightly calls him out for being a t00l, or insist on scribbling in the middle of other people’s letters because they make his missus look like something other than a saint.

But enough from me. I don’t want to distract you from your reporting duties. Surely there are other doors with holes in them waiting for their 15 minutes of fame. Next week: Cracks in Canberra Bikepaths That Look Like Things.

I’m slightly sorry you don’t like my work, but many others do and I’ll just have to keep doing my best.

Perhaps DJ feels the same about his posts. Of course, he doesn’t get to wield the +5 Modhammer of Sulking, does he?

STOP – HAMMERTIME!

LOL! well, that ended the funny comments, now didn’t it??

All news is front page news here, don’t read too much into it.

Now if you want to discuss editorial policy feel free to come down to All Bar Nun tonight, or email me ( john@the-riotact.com ), but please don’t hijack a discussion with a debate as to its right to exist at all. It exists.

Oh, if you think its crap, feel free to take out a premium membership and vote it as such. I give this one 2 stars.

Ok DJ, you’re in the queue now. Life’s too short for your incessant abusive negativity. Doesn’t mean what you say will never get online here, just that it’ll have to await review.

WMC, that particular interpretation is the result of your mind, not mine. And I wasn’t the one who mixed the supers. I’m slightly sorry you don’t like my work, but many others do and I’ll just have to keep doing my best.

OK, what’s ROFLCOPTER mean? Must be getting old, I only just worked out ROFLMAO!

WTF? This from the ‘journalist’ who told us the streets should be littered with dead and dying children by now, mowed down trying to cross the street to their new schools, and that terrorist Jihad againt the Tuggeranong Vikings was imminent? Now you want to somebody to make a joke about ‘drunk abos’, or draw a link where none exists (except in your own mind, obviously), and to post ‘news’ about holes in toilet doors? Quantity is certainly up since you took the reins back from Jazz – pity it’s more horsesh.t and less news.

Hahahahaha johnboy got OWNED!!!!! ROFLCOPTER!!

Quality control v Freedom of Speech? Ok, I accept that but JB is going to be very busy and not always with my posts! There is “nuisance value” and opinion with a very thin line between depending on your views on a subject.

I recall strongly disagreeing with his views relating several topics including Policing in the ACT… tell me JB, will I be moderated if I disagree with you on this or other topics? More threats or warnings?

You started with “…rookie police successfully operating a breathalyser” which I read to be written in a condescending manner describing Police then, tongue in cheek (?), you offer free alcohol? What was your positive take on the original posting? The offering of free alcohol?

*cue violins* I’ll try to stay positive but it’s not always easy….

Furry muff. I just think it would be a shame if we lost the insightful and intelligent musings of one “DJ”.

Not too sure of what it is you are trying to fish for this time JB. They could well be connected – you do know that the AFP has members that are not Caucasian and that come from all walks of life?

DJ make a positive contribution or you’re in the mod queue.

Last warning.

Threats and warnings? Hold yourself to the same standard. Positive contribution is in the eye of the reader isn’t it? Or do we all have to agree with you.

I reckon you’d have greater freedom of speech living in Communist China than on this forum DJ. Fight dem R.A Nazis!

DJ: “1.4.5 of nuisance value”

Will the Council of Civil Liberties go to court challenging what is meant by this given that Riot-Act is about “the right of reply”? See

WIN is rapidly becoming a hillbilly outfit. Last night the sound levels kept going up and down and it quite often sounded fuzzy and unintelligible. And don’t get me started on the volume of their ads, epecially those shocking Harvey Norman shouting sessions.

johnboy said :

Indeed, but they did manage to change the text.

Different part of the system I assume. It’s not one graphic anymore.

Saying that though, you would think they would run through and make sure that all the graphics are working correctly before the news? Maybe ant’s theory (not the holidays one) is correct.

This is great! I’m watching teh “late” news on WIN (recorded at 3pm this arvo no doubt), and they just showed that graphic again! Lots of stuff about Naidoc, the Naidoc ball and new aboriginal stuff, but no explanation as to why the police emblem was shown below the aboriginal header. Definitely the work experience kid (who was feeling very evil today).

Jessica is such a NRILF

Isn’t it school holidays? Obviously, they had the work experience kid doing the background thingies! Or someone was being particularly evil (shades of the “scum” jpg name of a picture in the online Canberra Times, that was so excellent!).

naidoc week celebrations at the local police station, sent all indigenous persons with outstanding warrants an invitation to attend the festivities, promtly locked up?

What was WIN trying to say:-

Another exclusive.

AFP’s first indigenous Police Commissioner!

Perhaps our indigenous cousins are throwing a party for the boys in blue? Maybe it’s by way of thanks for putting so many of them up for the night at short notice?

She of the racoon eyes was flying home on the crow black wings of morphine and the sory caught her by surprise

It’s simply a typo. The headline show read ‘Indie Genius Celebration’.

An AFP spokesperson confirmed AFP Commissioner Mick Keelty’s joyous reaction to alt-rocker Beck’s recent album ‘Modern Guilt’.

The lines from the title track:

“I feel uptight when I walk in the city
I feel so cold when I’m at home”

…are obviously about a police officer in Canberra.

i’m sorry, i should somehow be concerned to any extent about win ‘news’..?

JB I saw the story and was perplexed as well. I actually said “WTF?” Then I realised that we live in an inclusive society where the AFP strive to portray themselves in a postive light. Or the background dude/tte was drunk.

Deadmandrinking7:55 pm 14 Jul 08

Do you have a video of the actual story?

Not too sure of what it is you are trying to fish for this time JB. They could well be connected – you do know that the AFP has members that are not Caucasian and that come from all walks of life?
