Territory And Municipal Services are asking the public what they think about the Woden Library to help with developing a Heritage Conservation Management Plan:

“The Woden Library first opened its doors to the Canberra community in 1977 and has been listed on the ACT Heritage Register for its architectural design and importance to the Woden community,” said Stephen Ryan, Director, ACT Property Group.

“The Woden Library is an important community hub and because of this it is important that the Plan both respects the heritage values of the facility while enabling it to meet the current and future needs of the community.

“As part of the project to develop the Plan the ACT Government wants to define why the Woden Library is important to the community groups.

Consultation closes 13 September, so you better move smartly.

That whole area is a disgusting arid wind-tunnel. bulldoze the lot, and take it back to something liveable and normal. It is so repellant… cold in winter, hot in summer, hard and harsh. Get rid of it.

I’m with JessP; it’s an ugly concrete box built during the three decades when the architects were all on strike… but with much of interest and value inside.

Its an ugly concrete building in Woden town centre.

Don’t get me wrong – it is a great library – good selection of books and other materials etc but hardly worthy of recognition for its architectural design.

nope only a section on the side, the library is still about as big as it was when I was a youngster, but the heritage library is upstairs where the teen, record and magazine section used to be.

didnt they turn most of it into Canberra Connect?
