What's your favourite moment of the Welcome to UC video?

The University of Canberra has created a truly wonderful welcome video and placed it as a gift unto the nations on YouTube.

There are some magical moments. Below is my own favourite at 2:37.

For the pint of your choosing and/or the glory of being declared a winner, have a go at finding something funnier!

I especially enjoyed the part of the video showing the Vice-Chancellor removing old car parks and replacing them with new buildings. The part showing students receiving parking tickets when there is no signage indicating NO PARKING is especially educational. A life lesson not to be missed! Too bad they didn’t include Monday’s action of putting in new NO PARKING signs. Those poor students who parked in the morning before the signs went up got a nice surprise ticket on the return from classes. Poor UC (and the Australian educational system) for the new generation of students who do not know what a NO PARKING sign means or believe it doesn’t apply to them!

Parking was an issue when I was there 10 years ago. Must be much worse by now.

Sweet fancy Moses! 2.5 million views, that’s how it’s done.

Extremely graphic and unpleasant, but equally effective advertisement.

nothing is funnier than “Student accommodation”. I almost wet myself laughing

That was the only good bit, the man making some nice holes for the students to live in. Then those two hopeless muddle-heads with shiny shovels buggering up the job.

What an unmitigated pile of s***. What student or prospective student would waste time and bandwidth watching that crap? I only watched it because I thought it was an inept and therefore funny spoof video.

It needed badly-written and read narration, that would have made it perfect. In an awful way.

Ah yeah well sure look OK ummmm…I’m usually prepared to stand up and defend UC because there’s some good people out there, and I think they do a better job than a lot of people give them credit for.

But this seems a bit lame.

Mind you, to be fair to the University of Canberra the Australian National University’s product isn’t really that much better:

Employing epileptic camera people probably isn’t a great idea…..

Yes, ?impressive editing at the start, then some pointless blather about having 4 seasons, and your head exploding if you move to Syd or Melb instead! 🙂

Could do without the image of a woman being thrown through a glass window …

2:23 – I once caught a fish THIS BIG!

I’m not going to comment on the video in itself because the appallingness exceeds documentable dimensions, only to say that I hope it was some kind of 1st year Media Studies assignment and nobody got paid cashmoney for that 3 minute pile of craftless dross.

My theory is that they split the budget between outsourcing the intro to a professional and a couple of cases of beer for the team to get utterly soused on. The person least dead/hungover on Sunday then had to stick a bunch of photos into iMovie, play with some stock transitions and slap some generic music on top of it before passing out again after uploading this steaming heap to the internets. Surely

The psychedelic shirt at 37 seconds is pretty intense.

Right at the start.

It’s the way that the victorious swell of music which as the student smashes crotch first through the glass towards her bright graduate future suddenly cuts to the gratingly dull stock music while showing a still image of some lady smiling at her pen.

Even better is that it is followed by the crushed green box saying “Forgetting a job” – yep, pretty much sums up the employment opportunities of most UC grads.

One question, what drugs are the people in that video on? I’ve not seen so many “blissed out of my brain” smiles outside of a scientology convention.

Modern Facilities – photo of a “modern building” then a photo of people looking at a 2006 iMac.

I also love the fact that the video on youtube has a maximum video resolution of 480p. It’s 2013, I’d expect 720p at the very least.

Overall, a very lazy video.

Before it even starts when the (PLAY) > logo obscures the ‘For Getting a Job’ text making it look like ‘Forgetting a Job’.

Was that produced by the ANU?

My favourite moment of so many is the young woman at about 19 seconds showing that it is possible to stretch a couch or ottoman out beyond its actual physical dimensions by pure force of will, as she tries to increase the distance between herself and our beloved PM. Look at her expression of ecstasy as she realises her experiment in psychic physics is working! Or is that pain? (She’s the one on the left.)

And I thought the sciences weren’t well funded at the University of Canberra!

It’s brilliant.

It could almost win a tropfest award

No, my only question is what is that green Escher-like object they use for the text mean to be? It appears to have a yellow oar sticking out of it, if that’s any help.

Right at the start.

The switch gets me every time.

That was terrible. Simply terrible.

The highlight was seeing Gallagher struggle with how to properly use a shovel.

argh that stock music beat drives me mad….not a single ounce of cohesive narrative in this entire presentation…
