When did plastic sheeting get into road works?

The latest roadworks on Northbourne Avenue are admirably exceeding the gutter so as to avoid any Lake Northbourne repeats.

We were, however, intrigued by the plastic sheeting they’re putting down between the old road surface and the new bitumen.

Any theories as to whether this will make potholes worse through water pockets, or better?

It’s a slip’n’slide the labourers have put down in anticipation of the next big storm.

AWESOME!

Of course its plastic.. seen the price of metals lately with the weak AUD as well

It’s always a good idea to put down some weedmat before laying on your top soil and mulch.

Its a plastic mesh used to provide reinforcing and to stop the fresh layer of asphalt slipping on the older layer. Often used in high density roadworks like highways etc

I was curious also, and in the slow crawl asked one of the gents leaning on tools what the go was. Waterproofing apparently. Its going to need a gingerbeer to explain it.

Perhaps they’re helping to cover up the toxic waste being disposed of under the road. 😉
