When do extra hours add up to extra days?

The Greens are claiming victory to the ABC.

The cause of celebration is approval for their plan to put the assembly to work sitting at night (when the community can get along), and for an extra week.

Zed’s not happy, he wanted more sitting days rather than longer hours. Each sitting day brings a question time in which to chest up to “The Chief”. He put out a media release on 9 December expressing his disgust. Zed should consider that he doesn’t need a sitting day to do the main work of opposition (researching issues, developing policy, starting public debate).

Simon Corbell on the other hand is unhappy about what he sees as four extra weeks work of sitting hours and would like all the work he does when out of the chamber to be considered.

Hmmm totally family friendly- what a great idea (not). Plus, didn’t the pilots work out in the 70’s that after a certain length of time working you are no longer functioning at your best anyway…

So- unfriendly hours with tired pollies who are over it for the day, gee that’ll make for some great decisions

This is just bizarre! Every other parliament is moving to “family friendly hours” and the Greens force an extension to sitting times here.

The ACT Legislative Assembly is nothing but an overgrown council. Most councils meet one evening a week. That’s about all the Canberra City Council needs to do.

Anybody who knows the first thing about politics can tell you that time spent in parliament does not necessarily equal positive and productive work.

There is one very, very simple explanation for this move: the Greens want more time for their idiotic grandstanding.

PS Idiotic grandstanding under parliamentary privilege, too.

I just think of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” music video.

“The Chief”

LOL

Every time I read it the trumpets in my head start playing “hail to the chief”, and I see a little Jonny Stanhope running around in a silly uniform…

Okay, I said too much…

Zed is unhappy as his angle was he is a family man who works from 9 to 5, outside of this is family time.

How about they stop the yibber yabber and focus on the matter at hand. Rather than behaving like a bunch of petulant monkeys throwing poo at each and the walls and seeing what sticks.

I don’t think they should sit late. It has to be a shocker for the families. Also, I think if they can’t fit everything they want to into the day, well too bad. Considering what the Legislative Assembly usually gets up to, I think slowing them down would be a good thing anyway.
