Where can you get Santa photos taken?

Hi Rioters

I’ve had a bit of a look online and can’t find any info about the costs of Santa photos in Canberra.

Where can I take my little one for a chat and photo with Santa without needing to smash open the piggy bank to do so? Free is great, but I’m happy to pay a small sum, particularly if it raises funds for some community goodness.

I checked out the Westfield Belconnen Santa today and he seems a lovely man, but the cheapest deal is 1 photo at $17.95, and that’s a lot steeper than we can really afford!

The Brand Depot one is free, but, rather than those slightly freaky green-screen backgrounds, I’d much rather be looking at old-school Santa In A Big Chair photos when sighing over Little One’s long-past early years…

Over to you, Hive Mind. What do you know?

Katy Gallagher reckons you should go to Brand Depot.

If only there was a no-green-screen option at Brand Depot. It’s just too weird.

NB: I had been hoping to avoid chasing a Santa Pub Crawl down to get a photo of Little One with Santa… but it’s looking like the easiest budget option to find, so far!

(Dear Santa, please stop in at the pub just up the road from here.)

Will look out for the Cook one, that sounds interesting.

One of the best Christmas-lights-display houses in Belco last year had Santa out the front. I’m pretty sure he was happy to have photos taken for a coin donation to a local charity, and it didn’t sound like a one-year-only deal. I think it was in Cook, or a nearby suburb. Kill two birds with one stone?

Domayne in Fyshwick is free for the first photo, and the packs are quite fair. We’ve been there two years running now.

I’m really disappointed in Canberra this year for Christmas. No window (or similar) displays, no Santas outside of stores, just a few obvious cheap commercial gimmicks to try and get the punters in to buy stuff. I’m thinking of going to Sydney where DJs apparently have a terrific window display this year with a daily concert by the staff Choir and Myers has a Santa land with a train and elves and all sorts of fun kiddy things to do for free. There’s a free bus to shuttle you around the key spots, a big Christmas tree in Martin Place and loads off other community Christmas things too. Boring Canberra bores at world class levels yet again.

Myer in the city was about $20 for 2 photos, so stay away from there.

I think the Mall Santas are all around the same price.

Gungahlin Marketplace was about $12 from memory last year for a (12×8?) photo… and no queues! Haven’t been out there this year yet.

Harvey Norman is free for the first photo. He has a nice big chair. My cousins said it was good.
