Where to park at University House, ANU?

I have a meeting at University House for about an hour at 1pm next Thursday. I won’t have much time to look for a car park and parking’s always been difficult on the few occasions I’ve been to ANU before. I know there is parking at University House, but what are the chances there’ll be a space available at that time of day?

If not, can anyone suggest the best place to find a car park within quick walking distance? Thanks.

Try the pay parking at University House first, between 12 and 2, it actually tends to have spaces while people are out to lunch. It’s only between peak times when it’s chokers. Otherwise, just work your way out from there and you’ll find a space, even if it needs a short walk. There’s also passes you can get from ANU Parking for the day that give you access to special spaces.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions!

If you have the time, park at the National Museum.

You might have luck getting parking over near Balmain cres. at lunchtime.

There is parking at University house that is restricted to university house visitors only by permits held by reception there. If you’re that worried, call them and check..

Parking at the Uni itself is nigh on impossible. Recommend you pony up $2 for a carpark on London Circuit (opposite Rydges) and take the 5 minute walk.

Secret Uni House carpark!

Immediately opposite Uni House (Over Balmain Crescent) is a little weatherboard shack called the Academy of the Social Sciences. It is #28 on the street and has a big sign out the front saying so. There’s also a big “P” (for Parking) sign at its driveway. Go up here, around the back and there’s acres of parking (Or there used to be – last time I was there). It does feel a little odd, as the entrance is so small and the exit is a fair bit further on.

If anyone still reading has not been to Uni house, I thoroughly recommend going to the buttery for dinner and (summer) afternoon beers in the beer-garden. The restaurant upstairs (“Boffin’s”) is one of Canberra’s long-running culinary gems for fancier occasions.

You can do a drive by on University House and get lucky – if not spots then go to National Museum (8 min walk)

I don’t personally spend much time over that side of the ANU, maybe being further away from the main libraries/union court it wont be as busy, but maybe not.

I’m pretty sure there is free 3 hour street parking down the eastern end of Liversidge street street, which might be in walking distance for you.

If I were you I’d either be prepared to be late (if you can’t turn up any earlier), or to just park conveniently and play Russian roulette with the parking inspectors.
