Please help – need to find a place that sells a REALLY GOOD massaman curry.

You know the type – big chunks of meat, in that beautifully fragrant sauce with chunks of spud and some peanuts to boot……..suggestions please??

Used to go to the Suko Thai years ago when I lived here before; does anyone know if it’s still decent?

If it’s Thai cuisine you are after, you cannot go past Lemon Grass Thai. Everything on their menu is delicious. Excellent Massaman beef!

Thai Aromas in Kaleen makes my favourite massaman. Meat that falls apart when your fork touches it and delicious potatoes.

Definitely not the best massaman curry I’ve had, but a tale I feel compelled to tell!

A couple of years ago myself and my other half went to the Queanbeyan Roos club while visiting someone in Qbn and decided to stay for dinner. They had an Asian restaurant in the club then [can’t remember what it was called], think it may have been Malaysian/Chinese.

I had the massaman beef curry. It didn’t taste too bad and the beef was tender, but the one downside was that instead of nice big chunks of potato, they had used potato wedges, the frozen type you cook in the oven! I kid you not.

When I raised the issue with the staff the chef came out and said that he always used wedges in his massaman curry and no one had ever complained before. I suppose that the normal clientele might not have known any better?

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

pretty straightforward to make a good one yourself… all the asian grocers will sell you the ingredients (except the meat)

I had a beef massaman at Thai Lemongrass in Woden last week, and it was one of the best ones I’d ever had – huge chunks of super tender beef; along with the potatoes and peanuts.

I can back up that recommendation, the description is accurate. I’ve had the massaman from Lemongrass a number of times and it hasn’t disappointed yet.

I had one a week ago at Thai Time in Weston.

It was good, but I don’t remember ordering it ever before anywhere else, so no comparison.

Agree with rebcart. Every time I’ve eaten at Yum Thai, I’ve ordered the Beef Massaman. It’s awesome.

Thai House in Weston

Yum Thai in Dickson. They also do takeaway to northside which is awesome, always fast! We would get their massaman beef or massaman chicken about half the time when getting takeaway, it’s that good.

Suktothai in Yarralumla? It’s still decent. Doesn’t knock your socks off. But, it does offer the massaman with its lunch special. Spring roll, money bag, rice, curry of your choice, and jasmine tea, $11.50. Insane value.
