Having recently acquired a new puppy, I am in the process of looking for a good quality, reliable vet for all his medical needs.

I have narrowed my search down to the Weston Creek Vet in Warramanga, or The Gables Vet Clinic in Monash.

Has anyone had any experiences with either of these Vets to possibly make my decision easier?

May God bless you and your cucumbers…I tried this just now because of the pre-monsoonal heat, and slight feeling of nerves about the fires, and it is lovely! Tips like this are what I love on this site. (And also the way threads become a little, um, expansive, from time to time. It took me a bit of working back to remember which thread this comment was on, for example, as it has nothing at all to do with puppies.)

Another round of praise for Weston Creek Vet Hospital. They have been great with our two dogs, make the follow up call and we were able to get in 10 minutes before close one night with an emergency (would have been at least triple the price at the emergency vet in Fyshwick)!

A plug for the The Gables Vet at Monash.
I took a number of ARF (ACT Rescue and Foster) dogs to the Gables for their Vet work.
Always helpful and very willing to work with Rescue organizations.
They loved my last foster and I think I nearly re-homed her there and then.
We used All Creatures for our own dogs, mainly because they were closer to home, and they looked after our dogs well.

Chris at Wanniassa Hills Vet Clinic is really amazing. Very knowledgeable, kind and goes out his way to minimise the cost.

I know its not one of the three you asked about but you really should consider him.

I use him as well. He is always very kind and is always quick and reliable

all creatures—— watch your dollars ——-and the unnecessary tests. MALCOM in FADDEN has saved our family heaps of heartache and grief. Not a good business man just a CARING VET.

We use Malcolm from Tuggeranong Veterinary Hospital in Fadden. He has gone above and beyond for us when our dog was poisoned a few years ago.

I agree, Malcolm is beyond wonderful – he is such a gentle soul too and having had all our pets over the last 25+ years looked after by him has been a god send. But I do have to say, all the vets at Tuggeranong Vet Hospital are wonderful!

Good luck 🙂

+1 for Tuggeranong Vets, they have been great for all general pet matters, but really impressed me when my dog became special needs and has been a very regular visitor and supporter of the surgery. All the staff are caring, helpful and knowledgable. They are not pushy when it comes to expensive treatments so that you can make your own decision on how far to go.

We have been taking our animals to the All Creatures Vet Centre in Calwell for over 10 years. All the vets there are brilliant and we have had more than our fair share of crisis calls with them. They have done everything from reconstruct one our cats bones after a horrific car accident to helping other of our animals pass away in a humane and dignified manner. They always let you know what is going on and quote before doing anything major. They are very understanding, extremely professional and very compassionate animal lovers. I recommend them highly.

The capitalisation of the head-line is bugging me. For the record, ‘puppy’ is not a proper noun (no matter how cute it is) and requires no capital letter, and ‘visit’ isn’t a noun at all so neither does it. I wouldn’t have said anything if you’d capitalised the word ‘new’ as well.

Some bloody consistency, that’s all I’m asking for!

One day that fuse is going to blow and take us all out. I recommend gin and tonic – with cucumber, never lime – for the nerves.

Lime is Very Good. Punkawallah would be Nicer.

Back on topic, I go to Narrabundah to the Inner South Veterinary Clinic with our dogs, as I really like the vets there.

I have used the Weston Creek practice a number of times, for both cats and dogs. Whilst I cannot complain about the standard of care, I no longer take my pets there due to always being charged way over the initial quote. I understand there are variables in costs for illnesses etc, however when the procedure is routine, (desexing) with gender, age, health status known from the outset, barring unforeseen events I expect the quote to be adhered to. I have been stung at this practice every time I have been there, even when I have asked for a quote in writing. The last time it occurred, I asked for an explanation, and the answer was simply “It was required”. Not sufficient explanation for an extra $160.00 in my view. Anyway, just factor this into your choice

+1 for Weston Creek. They’ve always taken great care of our puss, and our previous pets too (dog, rats). Second Kim63’s comment about follow up phone calls.

‘Headline’ is one word.

I have used Weston Creek Veterinary Hospital for years for both cats and dogs, and any other stray animals I find. They are wonderfully caring and even follow up with a phone call after giving treatment requiring a hospital stay. When my old cat had to be put down, everyone cried because they loved looking after her when she was sick. My current dog loves going to the vet. He enjoys all the exciting smells he finds, and the attention he gets. They also have very convenient opening hours, early mornings and late at night, as well as Saturdays and Sundays. I highly recommend them.

I would highly recommend the vets at the Weston Woden Animal Hospital on Dixon Drive in Holder http://www.localvet.com.au/westonwoden/meet-our-team.aspx They have gone above and beyond for us many times and charge very reasonably.

Agree with KB1971 that Malcolm at Fadden is excellent.
