ACT Policing has charged a man following a pursuit in Phillip this morning (Sunday, September 25).
About 1.57am Woden Patrol responded to reports of a disturbance in Phillip. At the location of the disturbance Police were advised that a white Holden Commodore had left the area and was being driven by an intoxicated driver.
Police left the location of the disturbance and, at a nearby intersection, were passed by the vehicle of interest travelling in the opposite direction.
Police followed the vehicle as it approached two marked Police vehicles which were parked at the site of the disturbance. The vehicle drove between the Police vehicles, narrowly avoiding collision and accelerated away.
The Police vehicle activated warning lights and sirens, indicating the vehicle to stop. The vehicle accelerated along nearby streets, reaching speeds in excess of 70kph in a 50kph zone, until Police lost sight and terminated the pursuit. The pursuit lasted 42 seconds.
The vehicle was soon located with no driver or passenger. The male driver was later found outside the location of the earlier disturbance.
The man’s licence was immediately suspended and he will be charged with a number of traffic offences at ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, September 26.
