The Sydney Morning Herald brings word that “businessman James Milligan” has been selected to contest Canberra’s northern seat of Fraser for the Liberals.

(Giulia with a G has, as expected, been chosen for Canberra)

What do we know of Mr Milligan?

I’m sure I could do my own research, but where’s the fun in that? Does the Coalition run a candidate in every seat around the country? I know Labor doesn’t, it costs too much, why bother spending money in a seat you’ll never win, concentrate on the ones you can.

Because if there was 2 seats the Coalition should give up on (at least in the house of Reps) it’s in the ACT.

Or is it more that they have to be seen contesting the capital?

The Sage said :

James Milligan is an ideal candidate for Fraser. He is a small business man with good community links. He has made a real contribution to the Liberal Party in a relatively small time. Currently he is President of the Liberal Branch in Gungahlin, a key part of Fraser. He is not a political staffer, which is a breath of fresh air. In short he is a real person whose plain speaking will resonate in the electorate.

James, is that you?

He drives a classic Porsche.

Lucky people in Fraser, they get to vote for a male. Looks like I’ll have to vote informal this time around.
