With no buses on the road today JessP has raised an intriguing point:

Interestingly a lot of people at Woden parked in the Park -n-Ride bit of the carpark with their Park-n-Ride vouchers….highly suss..Could it be that they really don’t travel to the City or whereever they just get the vucher to park here for free?

It’s not really a scam if you pay for your tickets, even if you don’t use them, but parking there on a day when the ACTION drivers are striking…

Shhh, this scam has been run like this for years.

The other half of this scam includes forcing lower-income people onto a bus – but shhh because no nit wit in the Gov really wants to know what goes on when they can make a million a year in combined earnings

Some poor bloke got fined yesterday at Woden – he went to lunch at Hellenic club and desperately parked in park and ride cause all the regular spots were taken by people who would normally catch buses – so our parking inspectors promptly booked him for parking illegally – now that’s rough!

If this is the bloke I heard talking on the ABC radio, he had a disabled sticker on the car.
They were attending a seniors function at the Hellenic Club and the few disabled spaces were already taken. He should have been able to park anywhere (within reason). Very rough that he was fined.

I thought park and ride was also for push bikes as well?

I think all park-and-ride areas also have bike-lockers, so you can cycle to the park and ride, and leave your bike safely, when you pay to catch a bus. Sort of defeats the purpose since some buses have bike-racks anyway, and if you had a bike, why do you need a bus, dont want to walk the 500m from your house to the bus-stop?

Often a bike is a more reliable replacement for a connecting bus (or rather non-connecting) to the interchange when using the inter-town route. I ride to woden becuase I know for sure I can’t rely on the 27 and I’ll probably have to wait on hour for it on the way back.

Let’s put this into the same context as the driving/cyclist threads.

Is what they are doing illegal?

Welcome to 1998.

We used to do this way back in the day. Was cheaper than a monthly parking voucher for Woden, plus you got a spot right at the front door!

Also had the added bonus for us of “free” lunchtime bus rides into the city…

OMG They are getting parking for free! shame them!

They thought of a way to get free parking that I didn’t think of, now they are making me look stupid for paying all this time!

I thought park and ride was also for push bikes as well?

Innocent? There are no buses running today, anyone that is parked there with a Park n Ride ticket is deliberately doing something wrong!

Or perhaps they car pooled for this one day?

Its a simple scam….

Buy four weekly or one monthly ticket and get a free park and ride voucher. Sell your ticket/s to someone who actually catches a bus. Free parking here we come.

Happy to supply the photo but I wish to protect the (perhaps not) innocent.

Simple.

1. Borrow mate’s Adult Monthly Ticket
2. Present ticket to one of ACTION’s Customer Service Offices
3. Get ticket stamped and collect your monthly permit
4. Park for free for a month
5. Repeat next month.

Even buying the ticket yourself at $89 is a bargain.

lol awesome
I must research how to get in on this scam
