Why are the Liberals trying to discredit the speaker?

The Canberra Times has a story on the wussy Canberra Liberals crying foul because Shane said mean things to Zed.

And he even used rude words too mum!

Liberals frontbencher Jeremy Hanson used parliamentary privilege yesterday to allege that Mr Rattenbury, a Greens MLA, “hooked into” the Opposition Leader last week with a foul-mouthed attack on Mr Seselja as the two men continued their feud over the Greens’ approach to direct action by protest groups.

Mr Rattenbury denied the accusation yesterday, saying members should be free to have forthright and private conversations with each other.

“We certainly had a robust conversation,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“I think I might have used one expletive in the conversation. People swear in private conversations all the time. I completely reject the accusation of an expletive-laden tirade.”

Mr Seselja has been trying to pursue Mr Rattenbury since last year, when Greenpeace attacked and destroyed experimental genetically modified crop in Belconnen, with the Liberals’ leader alleging the Speaker refused to condemn acts of property damage by activists.

If you’re wondering why all this unpleasantness and dibber-dobbing is going on here’s something to consider; Word on the street is that with impending unpleasantness about his timesheets coming down the road Mr Seselja is trying to discredit the Speaker in the eyes of at least the party faithful (thus securing his own position).

Quite what the broader electorate will make of it all come October is another matter entirely.

I just can’t believe this is even a story in the Canberra times. Come on Canberra Times, stop being being so tabloidy.

I’ve always found Shane very restrained, especially given some of the crap dumped on him by the Libs.

If one word upsets poor Jeremy so much I guess he’s going be a mess from my language in private. Have fond memories (and a recording) of the slagging he dumped on me on 2CC a while back questioning my community work…

Hey Al (and the rest of the greens)….. give my my F^&*#’en plastic bags back then.

I’ve heard there is a new self-help group started in Canberra, Plastics Anonymous, for those who are still having trouble giving up the habit of using the old polluting bags for their grocery shopping.

It’s all electioneering. The Libs need to score points now before the timesheet debacle gets real messy for them – which it will – in another 4-6 weeks.

I reckon the Libs see themselves as getting the most seats of any of the parties in October – 8 out of 17 perhaps – but not a clear majoryt (9), so it seems they are trying to knock the Greens down a peg. Trouble is tho, if it ends up Libs 8, ALP 7 or 6 and Greens 2 or 3, the government will still be a leftie one made up of the Greens and the Reds. Zed is doing what TAbbott did in 2010 – pissing off the king makers. Not a good strategy I would think.

Wow. And these Liberals are drawing a wage on the public payroll? Childish, petty, infantile and stunningly pathetic. Is this all they’ve got? And they want to run the ACT? They have got to be joking.

The one word the Liberals in the ACT should put their fingers into their ears and go nanana to avoid hearing is ‘policy’. This is truly pathetic, as if there’s some teacher on yard duty who should punish the naughty boy who used a Bad Word. Or some extraterrestrial moderator who’ll swoop down and substitute **** and make everything nice again. Pile of generically mollified crap, anyone?

So Rattenbury said ‘f***’ in a private conversation *wow*
