Why we're not talking about today's ABS data.

The Bureau of Statistics released some data today on social trends.

And every other media outlet with a moron for editor/producer in Australia is making much of this data and its significance for their local area.

We’re not.

Guess what? Canberrans remain better educated and higher earning, on average, than other jurisdictions. Hardly news. Call me when that ceases to be the case.

More importantly the data is for 2006-7.

Internet demography, bus usage? This data is now so out of date as to be meaningless in news terms.

Still very important for the ABS and for Government. Not news.

So excuse this rant and we now return to normal service.

What a load of bollocks.
“Better educated” means a heap of gov departments booking some drones in for a Cert IV in Advanced Snoozing.
“Higher Earning” means “Higher Paid”, again due to the Fed Gov retaining legions of mouth breathers at 200% of what they’d earn if they were in the Real World ™.

Seriously, the amount of incompetent, knuckledragging, lazy, stupid PS raking home 100K+/year amazes me ! In the APS they’re getting paid a fortune where in the Real World (tm pat pend.) they’d be lucky to get a job asking you if you wanted fries with that.

Lies, damned lies, statistics.

Light rail, buses, flying nuns … no fking public transport will work in Canberra without proper timetables.

I think this part requires comment:

“Public transport

In 2006 about one in five adults (19%) in capital cities (excluding Darwin) used public transport to get to work or education, up from 16% in 1996. Three-quarters used cars as their main form of transport, with another 5% either walking or cycling. Sydney had the highest level of public transport use at just over one-quarter (26%) while Canberra had the lowest (8%).”

While Canberra continues with a system that is not attractive to people who can choose whether they will use public transport or drive their own car, this figure is unlikely to rise greatly. The most sensible solution is to provide a proper mass transit public transport system linking employment, population and town centres. Despite continued investment in bus’s – it is clear that Canberrans do not want to travel in them.

The better solution is light rail. It is more direct, will travel on grade separated routes and is more comfortable and faster than buses travelling on roads.

Well im visiting Canberra again arrived last night the average intelligence level probably went down last night as I lost about 1.5k at the casino but you get that in the big jobs. Stayed at the hotel Realm for a change and must say its below Hyatt standards and its self rated 5 star but I would say its only 4 star. Its lacking staff both in numbers and experience. The rooms have that new apartment type look but of the minimalist type modern look not your full luxury type look of genuine 5 star hotels in Sydney or Melbourne. Must say its refreshing visiting Canberra again in winter its the best time of the year I reckon for here as its something different from the other climates in Aussie.

Higher educated? the ANU can’t even organise class timetables one week out from start of class.

I find it strange that the cost of first home owners house is exactly the same for ACT and NSW, seems a bit dodgy.

So complimentary health treatment is linked to increasing mortgages!
