ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to a pursuit yesterday (Thursday 15 September) through parts of Canberra.

About 10:25pm police attempted to stop a gold coloured Mazda 323 with one headlight travelling northbound on Drakeford Drive. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit continued through Kambah, Waramanga, Weston, and Curtin. Stop sticks were deployed by police on Adelaide Avenue puncturing the front tyres of the offending vehicle.

The pursuit continued through Yarralumla and Barton before being terminated on Kings Avenue. Following the pursuit, the offending vehicle was sighted in Turner where it was followed by police before stopping in Forbes Street. The female passenger was detained by police however the driver fled the scene and was unable to be located.

Police are continuing to make enquiries into the identity of the driver. Nobody was hurt and no property was damaged as a result of the pursuit. The maximum speed reached was 160km/h and the pursuit lasted around 11 minutes.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the gold Mazda 323 or witnessed the pursuit to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

From Drakeford, through Waramanga, Weston, Curtin, Yaralumla, Barton, Kings Ave and into Turner, all in 11 minutes — that’s pretty impressive (and almost physics defying)

Well, reading between the lines ‘Drakeford, Waramanga, Weston’ means he drove northbound up the parkway from Kambah, turned onto cotter road then ‘Curtin Yarralumla Barton’ simply means the arterial roads near those suburbs. Youre right though, a quick google maps check, shows that route is ~24km which in 11 minutes means an average speed of 130km/hr.

As to the initial cause of the pursuit, Is this a sign that police might start cracking down on vehicles with only one headlight getting around at night? They seem to be everywhere and as their numbers seem to be increasing Im guessing they dont very much. We have police vehicles getting around that can identify your numberplate in a split second, wonder how much work it would be to identify a missing headlight.

This derro clearly missed his calling as a rally car driver. Hope they catch him and slap him silly with a phonebook, like back in the good ol 70s
