ACT Policing is seeking the assistance of the public to identify the driver of a vehicle involved in a lengthy pursuit with police last night (Wednesday, December 5).

Around 11.15pm, police attempted a traffic stop on an orange Ford Falcon XF utility with no registration plates on Hindmarsh Drive in Torrens. The driver failed to stop for police, and a pursuit commenced.

Police pursued the vehicle through several suburbs in Weston Creek, Civic and Belconnen. Several attempts by police to use stop sticks on the vehicle were unsuccessful.

The pursuit was terminated by police on Gungahlin Drive when the driver of the utility crossed the median strip and accelerated away from police on the wrong side of the road.

The pursuit lasted approximately 14 minutes and reached a maximum speed of 140km/h.

Anyone who can assist police in identifying the driver or the orange Ford Falcon XF utility involved in the pursuit is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Sorry but the human rights scum would have a problem with an EMP beam. What if the driver has a pacemaker and the pulse renders it inoperative??? I prefer a helicopter launched Hellfire missile. Used properly it can remove the fingerprints!

I recently saw some marketing material from an outfit that sells vehicle mounted Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) generators. These things direct a mighty mighty blast of energy in a beam at the target vehicle with enough power to toast all the onboard computers such as the engine management system. Press the button and the vehicle being pursued stops thundering and roaring, goes all quiet and grinds to an embarrassing halt. The range seemed a bit short, but I’m sure that will be fixed soon, and then the days of high speed chases will be over.

I’m not sure of this, but I believe that the target vehicle is also instantaneously rendered valueless as most of the electronic damage is permanent. Bwahahahahaha…..

Would it work on a car like an XF given that it has no engine management system?

It would have been the slowest police chase ever, a clapped out Hyundai Excel would have more go than an XF ute…….

As far as I know Hindmarsh Drive goes nowhere near Torrens.

Where does Hindmarsh Dr. touch Torrens?
