Will a Fyshwick Megamart steal business from Queanbeyan? And why do we care?

ABC Online has a strange story on the whining from Queanbeyan as a report they commissioned unsurprisingly told them what they wanted to hear.

Apparently a planned megamart of some discription in Fyshwick is going to lure commerce accross the border.

You’d think this would be a good thing, but Simon Corbell instead offers his usual meaningless blather.

“That’s been well looked at in the context of our advisory processes over the last two years,”

Um, OK… and??

In any event the ACT Government should be actively trying to foster as much business as possible in the ACT, and if that’s a problem for Queanbeyan then that’s Queanbeyan’s problem.

because this is a govt which consults to death and then does what it wanted to do anyway.

the more i think about i the angrier this sort of thing makes me.

a business wants to conduct a lawfull activity in a commercial precinct

so why, other than to make Simon Corbell a big swinging dick, do we need a two year consultative process?

The sooner we put a tollroad between ACT and QBN the better.
