There has been some criticism on this site of Jessica Good’s wardrobe decisions on the nightly news.

So I’d just like to say tonight was a winner, keep up the good work!

Good one, el: you’ve just given Jessica Wright the ammo for next week’s column! She’ll be well and truly spurned on now!

Christine Kininmonth comes from an inventor family, and she invented some kind of belt for pregnant women to use to convert their normal clothes into moo-clothes. It got patented and is now sold mainstream. Which is one reason why she’s on The Inventors.

Nice tits, too.

(vbg)

Of course, the CT has no beef with the RiotACT!

Just to prove I’m not a completely sad, sexist wanker; I have to say that Jessica has hit her straps in many ways on WIN News. She’s gone from being slightly nervous and awkward looking, to being much more confident and comfortable reading the news.

Mind you, stepping in after Peter Leonard’s retirement – she did have big shoes to fill.

Seems we are the only web-site in Canberra after all.

Todays Canberra Times has an article on the lovely (said in a not-sexist, non-toxic etc. way) Jessica and mentions that she pays no attention to the local internet discussion forums that critique her wardrobe.

They must be referring to those other on-line forums, not RA, surely?!

We still love you, tylersmayhem.

: )

quality posting NOT. what category does this come under? soft porn? is that why you came back coz you can’t get this WIN down the coast?

tylersmayhem12:40 pm 31 Jul 08

I never said she was a horse, I just said she “looks like a horse”. You are right though, we are such desperado’s hey!?

I’m just happy that she’s no longer looking like she just stepped offset from Cirque du Soleil before presenting the news.

I’m just happy that she’s no longer looking like she just stepped offset from Cique du Soleil before presenting the news.

I love that this is an open forum so long as you’re saying ‘woohoo, (.)Y(.)’ (or even heresay about a person’s private life – rich, I thought, coming from somebody who not so long ago was squawking about a defamation suit), but as soon as somebody says ‘is this really a cool way to act?’ it’s suddenly ‘open for everybody except you, dobber’. GTFU already.

Who can believe she didn’t wear the flower?

After being called a horse and having her figure over analysed by desperados.

She must be crazy!

You make that sound like it’s a bad thing.

Hey what CK, her previous boyfriends and whoever else do in the privacy of their homes is fine by me, as long as it’s legal. Adds to the appeal if anything. Prim and proper in public, naughty elsewhere.

Like Geoff Heugull says, “Fun and fitness at the same time, sounds pretty good to me…”

🙂

cant believe she didnt wear the small flower tonight…

perhaps we can suggest a colour…. lets go blue for thursday night.
Cmon Jessica!!

You might be right Sepi, but how about we all calm down and start again?

IN my opinion most people on this thread are sad sexist wankers.

She’s not wearing a flower… nice shirt ‘tho.

C’mon guys, don’t be sexist. Broads hate it.

Try to be civil.
I stand by my comment. This is an open forum, and while I (and I would guess many of us) consider some of these comments wrong and overtly sexist, it kind of defeats the purpose of an open forum to shut out a segment of opinion.

News AND discussion. It says at the top an open forum, a soapbox. What’s wrong with using it to compliment the dress sence of a news reader?

Loquaciousness: you remind me distinctly of the student in year 2 who dobbed on everyone whenever, and wherever possible. And when it came to question time, reached as high as possible with their arm, making grunting noises until the teacher gave in and ask them just to shut them up?

Hang-on, were you in my class in year two?

Once a dobber, always a dobber. Love ya work Tyler.

You are exactly right. This is a public forum and people are allowed to express their opinions, which they are doing. Get off your high horse missy.

It was only a matter of time until some righteous, bitter Loquaciousness-type to rear her ugly head and give us her two cents on what is in reality a totally innocuous thead.

Anyone with a brain can see that when it comes to sexism the pendulum swings both ways. Men are objectified in a far less-subtle manner in the media than women (e.g. diet coke man, Voodoo pantyhose ad where a woman is walking two naked dog-collared men). The only difference is that the average bloke isn’t harbouring insecurities from their high-school days. Hence we can have a laugh about such things without taking offence (so can the majority of women for that matter). People like Loquaciousness only highlight the obvious double standards that exist with regards to sexism.

Keep up the good work JB. Don’t yield to the vocal minority or RiotAct will end up being as dull as dishwater.

Lee Lin Chin was a reason to watch SBS news in her own right.
“Will it be a hairsplosion, or something made of carpet squares and sixteen staples?” was always a question worth having answered while preparing dinner.
Strangely, they were very rarely as unflattering as some of the things Jessica Good has worn.

But I had a milliner cousin who got LLC to recommend her hats around town, after meeting her at the Viginia Westwood exhibit at the NGA a few years back, LLC was willing to put her on Fashionista if it got picked up for another season…

I think of SBS newsreader Lee Lin Chin. 🙂

For anyone from WIN reading, its nice that she’s wearing clothes that don’t look like clown wardrobe rejects, and actually have her looking like a newsreader worth her chops.

The fact everyone’s gone off and started talking about other newsreaders from ancient history is not something to be concerned by, it means that they’ve stopped talking about her clothing, and the discussion thread has dissolved.

tylersmayhem3:42 pm 30 Jul 08

Granny – there is a VAST difference!

From a woman’s perspective there’s not a huge amount of difference between being barked at and being told that you look like a horse, for example.

Apologies for any offence.

It’s not something we’re planning on doing on a regular basis.

JB – It’s not something that should be occurring on *any* basis – regular, irregular or otherwise. It’s in extremely poor taste and certainly not acting as a good advertisement for the site.

For that matter, JB, is there a feature on the site to send private messages to members, so I can ask Loquaciousness out to dinner?

Aurelius – Exactly what kind of chance do you think you would have with a comment like that?

Working on it for premium members Aurelius.

In the meantime you’ll just have to leave contact details and hope she bites.

I love the 70’s hi-fi gear they have in the background. You sure they don’t film this from a Cash Converters somewhere?

CK might have appeared all so ‘private schoolish’ but she had some traits that were a little more, shall we say, ‘public school’in private moments

So long as Coke bottles and J. Diesel weren’t involved, I could still respect CK in the morning. 🙂

Oh gawd. Mark Carmody is such a dork.

Go on Jess, wear a small flower. We’ll love you forever! That is, until you’re forced to wear something hideous again, at which point we’ll [insert outrageous french accent] taunt you a second time.

I think Jessica should wear a small flower on her left lapel tonight.

The last thing we want is someone else in the media copying Mark Carmody.

What are armed forces coming to these days?

hahah how good is that! we should all take a little credit for the change imo.. good work

Looks like the RA sphere of influence has reached commercial TV

I’d hit her…

God I hope you mean that you’d ‘hit it’, otherwise I’m scared of your violent tendencies towards Newsreaders.

CK might have appeared all so ‘private schoolish’ but she had some traits that were a little more, shall we say, ‘public school’in private moments

iCanberran, who’s looking at the bloody backdrop!?!?

Indeed, however, you don’t serve fine caviar on a chipped old plate, rather you present I’d on a silver platter.

Mr Evil, I agree – I flicked over to the news last night and thought “Looks like Jessica reads RiotACT after all”. 🙂

Yep she does appear on the new inventors and still looks mighty fine for an older woman. A classy classy lady who’s beauty and intelligence have seen her still doing well today. She has started her own maternity wear business and done very well with it from all accounts

My all time favorite Canberra newsreader. I think we need a poll and some contenders from the last 25 years on this very important topic.

A mate of mine who used to go out with her would offer a slightly more, shall we say, risque opinion of her personality.

I drew a wry smile watching her read the news for a number of years after hearing a few of his anecdotes

Comon’ vg – out with it: we want the goss! 🙂

Christine always comes across a bit private school girlish to me.

I laughed last night when I saw Jessica on the News, as obviously RiotACT does have some media power: we ask for cleavage – we get cleavage!

I salute whoever made the change to the wardrobe, making the 1830 news less of a chore to watch.

Vic Bitterman11:49 pm 29 Jul 08

I’d hit her.

Looking good – both of them!

Christine always came over a bit too serious and austere (sp?) for mine.

I think you might find there’s been some vigorous discussion on topic about various presenters previously, though maybe not a poll as such.

And again, at the risk of my stating something that’s already been covered: how long since Channel Ten’s late news has had the revamp? It’s ATROCIOUS!

I’m ordinarily a bit more interested in content and substance than style (and unfortunately wasn’t home in time last night for ‘Lateline’), but Bob help me: Sandra Sultry looked like she was going to a Stevie Nicks lookalike night.

And the funky open studio look’s gone — had the chance to see it once up close and personal as an ex used to work there — and the tone has become as boxed in as the set. Yick!

Yep she does appear on the new inventors and still looks mighty fine for an older woman. A classy classy lady who’s beauty and intelligence have seen her still doing well today. She has started her own maternity wear business and done very well with it from all accounts

That looks like one for Crikey’s “Satin Watch”.

Holden Caulfield10:31 pm 29 Jul 08

Haha, I see what you did there.

She just seems out of proportion to me. Nice set all the same.

Bring back Christine Kininmonth!

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but CK bobs up occasionally as a panelist on ‘The Inventors’ on ABC-TV on Wednesday nights at 8pm. I don’t watch the show, though I can vividly remember watching Mk I of the show…. um, yikes! 29 years ago! — but it’s on before ‘Spicks and Specks’.

Deadmandrinking10:09 pm 29 Jul 08

To old.

Bring back Christine Kininmonth!

Gungahlin Al9:17 pm 29 Jul 08

I was clicking away at the picture trying to get the video clip to start, but then realised JB only posted a still. Gypped.

I’d prefer she wore nothing at all

She’s certainly no Virginia …

Nice. Now all they need is a decent news service and they would almost be worth watching 🙂

I think I prefer the more serious newsreader outfits.

Looking so much better !

Bout time. Now if they could just give her a nicer backdrop. All this stupid green-screen with cheapo blurry photos is just tiresome. Can’t they go up to Magnet Mart, get some iron on laminate, mdf and forsted glass and do something like Seven has for both the metro and regional news rooms. Heck, Townsville has a better news set.

Ahhh yes, looking great tonight Jess! Did anybody catch the segment tonight with Erin Mowlan trying her hand at ping pong? I actually found it quite amusing – NOT NEWS – but amusing nonetheless. Brave girl to agree to do it.

WOW, our Jess has turn into that sprightly young 25 year old everyone was talking about.

…sorry what were you saying? I lost concentration there for a moment.
