Andrew Barr has excitedly announced Canberra’s first One Day International will be on 6 February 2013 between Australia and the West Indies:

Manuka Oval will host the one-day international match on 6 February 2013 as part of the 2012-13 Commonwealth Bank Series. It will be a day-night fixture.

The Australian team is coming to Canberra as part of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations in 2013. Tickets for the match go on sale on 11 October 2012.

The West Indies team will include Chris Gayle, who scored 146 from 89 balls last time he played at Manuka Oval, against the Prime Minister’s XI in 2010.

Today’s announcement is great news for cricket fans from Canberra and around the region, who will be able to see some of the best cricketers in the world in action. Hosting matches of this calibre also helps raise the profile of Canberra as the nation’s sporting capital, and gives visitors even more reasons to visit our city, providing a boost for local tourism operators.
