It’s noon.

It’s foggy, and Canberra is languishing alone in the low single digits for temperature.

Cold, gray, and a good day for pho.

And Canberra just wouldn’t be Canberra without some dill walking around Civic in shorts and t-shirt in this, as I just saw.

Wasn’t a courier driver was it? I swear it must be a part of their conditions of employment that they never wear long pants, regardless of the weather.

Goulburn, Australia’s first in land city.
Played the first ever rugby match in Australia against the Lions many years ago.
Still go alright at rugby now actually. I lived there for a few years, nice place.

A big pity they demolished the old toilet block in Belmore Park more than ten years ago which was one of the best gay beats in Australia.

Great location for the Truckies, just off the Melbourne – Sydney (root) route.

Yeah it was great back in the day before the bypass was put in. On the way up to Sydney I’d look right and if there were trucks parked I was in like Flynn. There are two other beats on the way to Sydney nowadays but you have to divert off the highway to get there. It adds a whole new meaning to Stop, Revive, Survive.

“heaven forbid when it finally snows in Canberra… everyone wouldn’t know how to drive and there would be chaos on the roads”

Although, having lived where it does snow and driven too, you would know (or learn rather quickly) how to drive better. So I say, bring on snow in Canberra!

It’d be great! Rug up well, walk to the nearest roundabout, and laugh myself silly.

Drive up to any of the snowfields and watch the cars with the blue and white number plates. Plenty of others make idiots of themselves too, but the blue-platers usually win.

Excellent excuse to bring Friday’s chilli hot chocolate forward to Tuesday. Especially as I rode my bike to Civic and am officially dead despite 200 jumpers.

If anyone says that it’s a bit brisk I will kill them in a cheerful frozen way.

Your just jealous. As long as he’s got the legs for it, what’s the harm?

My biggest rant to friends and family is

“heaven forbid when it finally snows in Canberra… everyone wouldn’t know how to drive and there would be chaos on the roads”

You’d have people driving 10kph and other people trying to do 60kph, bald tyres would actually mean something to people too..

Man I wish it would just snow … winter would be so much more tolerable

No. Hell no. Visiting snow is one thing. Living in snow is completely different.

Think of Canberra drivers and snow and ice on the road. Think of Canberra drivers and chains. Think of spending an hour shovelling a spot for your car and some bogan parking in it. And think of all the road salt corroding your car. Do not wish it on us.

Canberra winters are great. Most days you get sun and crisp air, you can walk around without slipping and breaking your hip. You don’t overheat when you exercise outside, which is a lot less inviting when it snows, warm drinks, hearty food, log fires, schnapps, the smarter winter fashions kick in, and we get a respite from wife-beaters, stubbies and thongs (and not-so-smart little nightclubbers still wear skimpy clothes, bless ’em). And if you really need a snow fix you can still do a day trip to the snow.

On the other hand, I have seen many, many cars running round without lights on at all.

I don’t know if this is illegal or not, but I’d love it if it was illegal to drive a car in fog without lights on…
The number of cars that I passed going the other way this morning which you could only see them as they went past was unbelievable, the worst was the white cars with no lights. They where pretty much invisible even as you where driving past them.

Today is a good day – have not seen a single car unnecessarily using its fog lights.

On the other hand, I have seen many, many cars running round without lights on at all.

Haha you are a classic, r.slicker.

I lol every time when you randomly make a post about how you miss the good old days and the many gay beats.

It’s 17 on the coast.

The government should legislate against it dropping below 16 degrees.

I walked to work this morning and I think it was colder just now when I went across the road to get some goodies than it was at 8am when I arrived at work.

We usually get a few of these days a year. Just be thankful we’re in the positives.
