Hi I’m a Year 12 Student who is doing a school documentary on Canberra witchcraft and was just wondering if any one has any contacts I could interview to help my project?

Whether it is for or against, I’m more just interested in the story of the coven, and looking to find out as much as I can about the organisation.

Thanks for your help!

Fiona Horne (who folks may remember did a duet in the 90s with Canberra’s own Paul McDermott, damn fine voice) is apparently a witch, or an expert on witchcraft. I think she’s based overseas but probably a good source to include.

A real live witch? Oh please, give me a break here.

Well we can test… we just need a large set of scale and a duck.

that’d be a fair cop.

Ah all this talk about Fiona Horne reminds me of the time she fronted Def FX !

It reminded me of her Playboy photo shoot!

Yep having rubbed shoulders with her she was very easy on the eye but more importantly she is/was fantastic onstage, incredibly energetic dancer and could sing to boot.Loved watching that band

I remember going to a Wiccan/Piccan … only prominent event that comes to mind was standing in a circle, passing this plate around and saying something in a language that I haven’t the faintest was.

Are you sure you weren’t in a Catholic church?

Ah all this talk about Fiona Horne reminds me of the time she fronted Def FX who back in ’96 performed at the Asylum,East Row which some of you may remember.Anyway I was helping out with security that night and in order to get to the stage she had to make her way through the crowd to get there and in somewhat of a prima donna fashion insisted security surround her and escort her onstage.During the gig some idiot knocked over the stage lights and blacked out the room which forced about a 15 min delay and wasn’t she pissed off.

That aside she is apparently considered a worldwide authority on modern witchcraft and has written quite a few books on the subject. She’s a wiccan girl who’s done very well for herself.Oh yeah and Barcho you would’ve loved Def FX,they were an awesome live band!

They don’t exist. The vampires defeated them.

There are no Mount Ainslie Witches. The story was made up by an evangelical church based in Victoria after someone misreported rust stains at the base of the communication tower as blood. (See pierce’s link)

There are self-identified witches in Canberra, but they don’t hold blood rituals by night atop Mount Ainslie.

well, not that they tell you… 🙂

there’s a henge out on the federal highway – see http://the-riotact.com/whats-the-go-with-the-federal-highway-henge/92074 – the landholders there might be able to give you some insights..?

Deech the weech.

Perhaps you could speak to Lilitu of Lilitu’s Books and Music in Gold Creek. I have no idea if she’s Wiccan, but her shop sells some pagan ritual items, so she may have contacts.

I do know that Morris dancers sometimes dance up there on Mt Ainslie summit at dawn. Some sort of pagan thing perhaps.

I remember going to a Wiccan/Piccan (that’s what they call witchcraft today isn’t it?) meeting one night years ago at the John Knight Memorial Park on Lake Ginninderra. I don’t know why I went there but vaguely remember I was dragged along by a friend to experience something unconventional. I seem to remember it wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be and I was amazed at the number of conventional public servant type looking people there. Other than standing around mildly embarrassed and thankfull that no one could really recognize anyone else in the dark the only prominent event that comes to mind was standing in a circle, passing this plate around and saying something in a language that I haven’t the faintest was. Anyway this is probably of absolutely no use to you but thanks for jolting my memory of this.
