Without complaining about Stanny & Co again....

Is there a point to having self government in the ACT?

I’m really struggling to understand what value there is beyond the obvious garbage, roads and gardening processes. Each time they discuss anything you cringe with embarrassment.

The last straw has been the Greens – they trade on the intellect of Bob Brown but whenever the local’s open their mouth you understand how shallow the Green membership really is.

I’m not angry but extremely disappointed with our lot in life living in some delusional municipality. I’m even contemplating that Tassie might even be a better place to live!

Perhaps you could sell all those superfluous apostrophes to afford the ticket.

Anarchy

Aah, Canberra, the gateway to Queanbeyan where local government actually works.

Don’t let the Bass Strait drown you on the way out!

if you are worried about the Greens, you may want to have a look at the make up of the Tasmanian Parliament before you move there.

We have a council…albeit with a fancy title. Just accept it or your head will explode.

Your post would have some merit if it gave an example of what you’re talking about. A general rant about some unspecified vague complaint with what you perceive to be a problem with the local guvmnt is as likely to be noticed by anyone who matters as standing on top of Mt Coree with a loud hailer.

And BTW locals possesses no apostoph’e used in that sense.

Bobbatty, your post distresses me. All governance is about mere practicalities, and no one should be looking to government to improve their ‘lot in life’. If the quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our government, then the quality of everyone’s life could be improved with a worldwide suicide pact!

Our lot in life has more to do with filial relationships, economic and climactic conditions than with mere politics. Whether we have Liberal, Labor or Green governments, or how those governments interact with each other (or fail to) makes very little difference to these aspects of life. No matter how much credence we give politicians for being able to change them, what they do is all just a fiddling about the edges. And Tasmania, while it provides a much higher standard of living in many respects, is just as wrought with administrative problems.

My own philosophy is that the sooner we stop seeing politicians as leaders and start to see them as administrators, the sooner we can start enjoying life.
