ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an incident in which a woman was attacked by a knife-wielding man in Barton late on Saturday night.

Police said that about 10 pm on Saturday night (22 September 2018) a 26-year-old woman was walking along Darling Street near the Barton Tennis Club when a man ran at her with a knife.

The woman was forced to the ground and told not to scream, but she soon noticed two people nearby and called out to them. The man then released the woman and fled the scene on foot towards Telopea Park.

During the incident the woman received cuts to one hand and was taken by ambulance to the Canberra Hospital.

An extensive search of the area, including the use of dog teams failed to locate the man.

He is described as Caucasian, 175cm (5’9”) tall with a slim build. He was wearing a black puffer jacket, white shirt, white cap and was barefoot.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw the man running through Telopea Park or surrounds to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
