Witnesses to Watson car smash?

Morning All,

Last night my girlfriend’s car and a second car were totaled by person driving a late model red/maroon Mitsubishi Triton. Her housemates heard the collision, looked out the window just in time to see the coward turn off his headlights (assuming to hide the rear number plate) and take off.

The two vehicles were legally parked in a parking bay, off the main thoroughfare of the street.

Given the damage to the two other vehicles, and that the driver of the Triton was able to take off, it’s possible their vehicle had a bull bar.

Crash happened on Aspinall Street Watson, approx 11pm 9th June.

This is a 50km/h residential street, with traffic regularly flying through at up to 80km/h. Again, given the damage, I assume this driver was one of these idiots.

Anyway, in the unlikely event that anyone knows anything, has a bogan neighbour with a recently damaged Triton, or knows something helpful, please post it, or email me on info@turini.com.au.

Thanks,

SB.

We attempted to report it at Civic police station last night. Officers on duty weren’t interested in helping as we did not have the Triton’s rego. Told us to fill out a crash report online, which we attempted to do… but weren’t allowed to submit without the other drivers date of birth, plus had to declare that we were the drivers of one of the vehicles involved in the incident, which was not the case.

Really???

So, according to this post, it is no longer possible to report hit and run crashes any more in Canberra.

You can, Watson is right, this post refers to my car, and at 1 am I couldn’t figure out how to manipulate the form into being appropriate for a hit and run accident. As I wasn’t a ‘Driver’ but have sorted it out now.

I would say police have more important things to chase up as no one was injured, and we only have limited details. We do have a small collection of bits that belong to the car that drove off, but I am doubtful of finding the car they belong too.

I’ve probably been watching too many detective shows but if this idiot cleaned up two cars, wouldn’t they have left enough paint (from the car and bullbar) to be able to identify the type of vehicle? How many late model red/maroon tritons in the ACT and regional NSW can there be?

Then again, they don’t even seem to be doing that these days judging by the number of people who blast by me at 100km/hr in 60km/hr workzones.

Ah, the old: they’re just sitting around on their lazy arses doing nothing because they don’t catch everyone breaking the road rules. Maybe you should join the police and set things straight!

And I think with the ‘driver’ of the car, they really mean the owner of the car when it comes to crash reporting.

Also, the old CAD/job number has been replaced with the online form submission ID and that is what your insurance company will need. I think the police only investigates hit and runs if someone gets hurt. Parked cars get damaged all the time in carparks etc without the offender leaving their details or sticking around. It sucks, but there doesn’t seem to be much you can do.

I’ll keep an eye out.

I’ve definitely noticed an increase in the Watson bogan population over the past few years (particularly 20-40 year old shabby looking blokes cruising around on mountain bikes during work hours and conspicuous drug deals at or around the shops). After a couple of break-ins, I half expect another every time I leave the house. (/rant)

How many red/maroon Tritons would there really be in Canberra? Not a common colour for bogan 4×4 tradiemobiles. Utes, maybe. Tritons? That information would be readily obtainable for police but that might take too many officers away from their jobs sitting on the side of the road. Then again, they don’t even seem to be doing that these days judging by the number of people who blast by me at 100km/hr in 60km/hr workzones.

Basically, unless you present the evidence on a plate, good luck . . . “He’s threatened to kill me, repeatedly, in writing!” “But he hasn’t *actually* killed you?” “Well, no. Obviously.” “See, there’s your problem ol’ China. If he had of killed you, then we could get started on the paperwork . . . “

You can submit crash reports with the details you do have (online if you wish).

Personally I would’ve thought that the police would be interested in obtaining whatever details possible of an incident where two cars were totalled in a residential area.

What details?

If the person was drunk, they could’ve easily wound up in another crash? Or the vehicle may have been stopped for a breath test or other offence later in the evening?

But you didn’t have the rego?

Good luck with finding out more details. Having some muppet total my car then take off would piss me off no end.

Dont report it to a station. Call 131444. You still might not get police attendence, but request a CAD/job number for insurance purposes. If nothing else they should produce an information report.

Good luck SgtBungers. I hope they catch this bastard and fine him the $50 he so richly deserves!

Oh well, it was Thursday night. Too many resources tied up in stopping bogans from glassing each other in civic.

Re. the online crash report form, the person filling out the form is always regarded as Driver 1. You can specify that you were parked, further down in the form and add the specific circumstances in the description box. Then the Triton driver will be Driver 2 and you have to tick the ‘failed to stop’ box. Then you will be able to submit the form without entering his basic details.

You will probably need the submission number of the form for your insurance claim.
