ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to offensive behaviour by a man understood to frequent the Woden and Phillip area.
The alleged offender is described as a male aged in his mid to late 30s; Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance; approximately 170-175cm (5’7” – 5’9”) tall; with a slim build; dark brown collar-length hair; with an untidy appearance and sometimes described as having unkempt facial hair.
Police have received several reports of this man making sexually suggestive remarks to women, following women, and two instances of touching women inappropriately. He has been seen mostly around the general area of Woden Plaza, but also in Ainsworth Street, Mawson and Canberra Avenue, Fyshwick.
Sergeant Mark Steel, the acting Officer-In-Charge of Woden Station, said that police were pursuing several lines of enquiry in relation to this alleged offender and were seeking to interview anyone who may be able to positively identify him, may have been the victim of offensive behaviour, or who may have been assaulted and not yet reported it to police.
Police have received seven information reports over the past month, all linked to a male with a similar description.
“This man’s behaviour toward women has been offensive and unacceptable, and police are concerned that this inappropriate conduct may escalate into a more serious incident,” Sergeant Steel said.
“We need the assistance of the public to identify this man. If any women are approached by a man answering this description and are concerned about his inappropriate or offensive behaviour, we would urge them to immediately contact Police Operations
