ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to assist in its investigation of an armed robbery at the Woden Tradies Club in Phillip during the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the location around 2.20am today (Tuesday, August 9) after it had been reported that two men dressed in black clothing, “hoodies” and masks had entered the club and menaced the staff. One of the offenders was armed with what appeared to be a handgun while the other carried a machete. A sum of cash was stolen.

One of the offenders is a male about 183cm (6’) tall, between 20 to 30 years old, with a deep voice. The second offender is believed to be around the same age.

The offenders fled on foot in the direction of Lyons.

No-one was injured during the robbery.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the men leaving the club on foot toward Lyons, or any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the offence. Anyone who may be able to assist police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Wow. My whole first post was full of typos. Disappointing effort, Mysteryman.

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t aware of the criminal activity taking place in Canberra. I know it’s always been happening, but knowing about it makes me feel like this place is getting worse.

Once they catch them, perhaps cutting off one of their hands would suffice as a deterent to them and others?

Bit extreme perhaps…………?

I’m comfortable with that.

Wow, fans of sharia law are we?

Gee, is that what it is called? I was thinking more on a practical level than that.

But, hey, knock yourself out.

That should read:

*and is not defined by the punishment*

Typo.

There’s a big difference between Sharia law and increasing the penalty for our existing laws. Sharia refers to the code of conduct expected of Muslims and it’s defined by the punishment. There was a time when criminals in non-Islamic societies wee also punished by having their hands cut of. It had nothing to do with Sharia law.

I think the prospect of loosing ones hand would be a much better deterrent for theft than our current system. One of the upsides is that the crook could only commit theft twice before it was literally impossible to do it again! 😉

So, why are we so against Shariah law, you seem to be all for it?
