Woman caught driving nearly double the speed limit over Easter weekend

Lachlan Roberts 3 April 2018 7

A 30-year-old woman will face court for drink driving and other offences after she was caught driving nearly double the speed limit in Gungahlin on Saturday night (31 March).

About 10 pm, ACT Policing detected a vehicle travelling at 149km/h in an 80km/h zone on Horse Park Drive near Kenny.

The woman was on her P plates with a requirement to use an interlock device – a breathalyzer for a vehicle that requires the driver to blow into a mouthpiece on the device before starting the vehicle.

An interlock device was not fitted to the vehicle she was driving and the vehicle was not registered to the driver.

The driver provided ACT police with a sample of breath which returned a positive reading of almost three times the legal limit of a full licence holder.

The driver was taken to the Gungahlin Police Station and later released from custody.

The driver will be summoned to attend court at a later date for exceeding speed greater than 45km/h, repeat special driver PCA level 3, and contravene interlock condition.
