Gundagai accident

NSW Police spent several hours this afternoon investigating a collision between two cars on the Hume Highway near Gundagai that left a man and a woman seriously injured and another woman in a critical condition.

Officers from Cootamundra Local Area Command established a crime scene at the site of the collision and investigations are continuing.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection between the Hume Highway and the service road for the Dog on the Tuckerbox and neighbouring petrol stations at 2.40pm and police were still on site when RiotACT passed through three hours later.

All traffic was diverted from the southbound lane of the Hume Highway through the service road while police conducted their investigation.

Police said initial investigations suggested a Ford Falcon sedan was travelling north on the Hume Highway when it crashed into a Mitsubishi sedan turning onto the highway from a service station.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a woman believed to be in her late teens or early 20s, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

The driver and passenger of the Ford, a man and woman, were treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital with serious injuries.

The Hume Highway was partially closed in both directions as investigations took place.
